Autofilter sort list problem

When using autofilter on a large sheet (several columns, thousands or rows of data), I find that the pull-down tabs do not work like they used to and this is a problem for me. I have a sheet I use every day and use autofilter on it. In this sheet are part number and a variety of other details. When I sort, say on part number, using the pull down tab, I get the complete list, and just go down to the part number of interest, select it, and it filters everything else out. The next part number I need to check however, requires that I go to the same pulldown tab and select all, where it then redisplays everything, then I have to go back and find the new part number. In earlier revisions of NeoOffice 2 (early Tiger compatible releases), This worked differently. Using the above example, on transitioning to the 2nd part number, I would just go to the pull down tab, and all part numbers would show in the list, which would allow me to just go to the next part number and have it re-filter, if you will, everything out but that part number's row of info, and I would not have to go through the step of redisplaying the entire sheet as an intermediate step. While this may sound nit-picky, my sheet is many thousands of rows of data and it takes time to do the added step. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
