FYI -

By default (on my machine/OS) The left hand column of item labels on this page have black text on a very dark blue background. This makes them very hard to read.
I know this can easily be due to default settings within my machine/display/OS/browser ... so maybe it's OK for most people. But I think my set up may be shared by a lot of people so thought you might want to know.
My particulars:
I don't mess with default color settings for any of my hardware or software
machine: MacPro (Intel)
OS: OSX 10.5.3 (leopard)
browser (Firefox 2.0.0.14)
display (Apple Cinema 20 inch)

We run this site with a piece of software called PHPNuke. It definitely is not perfect and I agree that the developers of the PHPNuke software picked some interesting colors for some of the pages. Unfortunately we are stuck with it for the time being as moving this site to another software package would be a major project.

It's been that way ever since I've been here 
(Once upon a time you could chose other Nuke themes, but they didn't have all of the customizations, so some parts of the site didn't work, so Ed disabled them. Perhaps once upon a time you used another theme?)
