Error Installing Extension

Hello Everyone,

I don't know if this is an easy one to solve: Whenever I try adding an extension with python elements (I'm not a programmer, so I don't know much about that) to NeoOffice (2.2.4 Patch 5 on a PPC OS 10.4.11) via the extension manager: I get an error message:

Relaunched Neooffice several times, reinstalled it, but no success. has anyone an idea?

These types of errors usually appear when you try to install an extension that only requires a newer version of OpenOffice.org than NeoOffice is based on. NeoOffice 2.2.4 is based on OpenOffice.org 2.2.1 so if the extension developers designed it for OpenOffice.org 2.3 or 2.4, it won't be backward compatible with NeoOffice.

BTW, can you give us a link to the extension's website so that we can verify if that is the cause of the problem?

It's a plug-in for the bibliographic firefox extension zotero.

And it's a special Neooffice extension. Some people on their website are reporting it works fine with NeoOffice. To make sure it's no problem of the extension, i tried another one,

Thanks for the link. I can install it without error on my Mac OS X 10.4.11 machine. So, I suspect that there is some corruption in the extension registry files that NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code writes to when installing an extension.

To test my theory, can you try the following? These steps will force NeoOffice to create a set of new user preference files with default values:

1. Quit NeoOffice
2. Move the following folders to your Desktop or to the Trash if they exist:

Since NeoOffice bundles its own copy of Python, the next likely causes are:

1. Some system environment variables are interfering with loading of NeoOffice's bundled Python binaries
2. NeoOffice's bundled Python files are corrupted or missing

Let's check the first possible cause. Can you launch the /Applications/Utilities/Terminal application, paste the following commands into the Terminal window, press the Return key, and paste the output in this forum?:

Aha! Something is interfering with the menubar and I noticed that you have the Menu Extra Enabler system hack installed on your system. Can you disable the Menu Extra Enabler system hack by doing the following steps?:

1. Quit NeoOffice
2. Move the following folders to the Desktop or the Trash:

/Library/InputManagers/Glims
/Library/InputManagers/Menu Extra Enabler

You can find the /Library/InputManagers folder by double-clicking on the main volume icon on your desktop and, in the Finder window that appears, navigating down through the Library and InputManagers folders.

3. Reboot your machine

Is there any change?
