|
When using mail merge to create several pages of unique mailing labels from an input table, if I use the print option and create a PDF file I get all the labels in one file. However what I want is one editable file, so I choose the File option in Mail Merge but it always generates one file for each page of labels. I've tried both checking and unchecking the "Single print jobs' option but it doesn't make any difference.
Is there anyway to get MailMerge to create a single .odt file that has all my multiple pages of labels?
thanks,

In the Tools :: Mail Merge Wizard dialog, when I get to step 8, I checked Save Merged Document and then checked Save as Single Document and pressed the Save Documents button. That created a single file with the merged output.
Do you get different results than me when you use the above steps?

I'm not using the wizard, instead I'm opening my template and doing File/Print which leads me into the mailmerge dialog.

File :: Print will always lead to print output which on Mac OS X is always PDF. You cannot print to an editable document format. When you print to file, you are only directing the PDF to a file instead of to a printer and there is no difference in the type of output generated.
What happens when you use the steps that I listed instead?

Patrick,
I used the wizard following your suggestion got a text file with all my labels. It only has some font size issues that I have to figure out - why the first and second fields are a different font and size than the address, city, state, zip fields. Hopefully that isn't a bug.
But by using my saved .ott file and the wizard I got a result that is close to usable. Thanks very much for sticking with me.
One last thing that maybe you have an idea on is that Command-A (select all) doesn't seem to work easily to select all the labels so I can modify the font and size. Is there some issue with label cells that I'm not aware of?

An easier way to do this may be to edit the style used by all of the items that have the unwanted font. You can edit the font for a style in the template or in the merged file by using the following steps:
1. Click on one of the items that you want to change the font for and note what the name of the item's style is set to. The style name is the name in the combo box in the toolbar next to the font name.
2. Select the Format :: Styles and Formatting menu and in the dialog that appears, select the style name that you noted in step 1.
3. Control-click on the style name and select Modify from the popup menu. In the dialog that appears, click on the Font tab, change the font name and/or size, and click OK.
The above should change the font for all items that are set to that same style name.
