Problem with Open with...

Hello all,

I am a new user of NeoOffice and I am delighted by this fanstastic alternative to MSOffice.

I have only one concern: I desesperately try to associate NeoOffice to all my existing Word documents (over 25,000...). In brief, I want to be able to double-click on any Word file and have it opened automatically within NeoOffice.

Of course, i know I can do it if I request it for each file (Open with... and select NeoOffice). In the future, this specific file will remember it does open in NewOffice. But I want it for all Word files.

Actually, i want to open any Word file by simply double-clicking on it, not by pre-opening NeoOffice and select Open...

Please help!

Hi Vincent,

This can be done fairly quickly. All you need to do is right-click on any Word doc, and click Get Info. In the menu that then comes up, there will be a bit that says "Open With." Simply select NeoOffice from that list, and then click the "Change All" button below it.

Then all your Word documents should open in Neoffice. Note you may have to log out and in again for the document icons to reflect this change, but the docs should open in Neo without needing a restart.

Note also that if among your 25K Word documents you have documents saved by Word 6 as well as by the newer versions of Word, you may have to repeat those steps with a Word 6 document in order to change all of the Word 6 documents, too (see the second caveat here).
