OK, I did some overdue security patching and cleaning on the server and increased the various swap partition sizes so now the server should be back online (no SQL timeouts) and hopefully the response time should be a little bit better then before. If she's still a bit slow, be patient as it's probably just a backup in progress or a heavy load. I think the DB server could use a tad more ram tho...
