Is it possible to run NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access on a machine which also has 2.2.5 installed? Or will 3.0 overwrite the 2.2.5 app and preferences?
Will 2.2.5 still be able to open files created by 3.0? |

Like all NeoOffice installers, NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access will be installed in /Applications/NeoOffice.app. So, to keep NeoOffice 2.2.5 on your machine, move or rename your /Applications/NeoOffice.app installation in the Finder before running the NeoOffice 3.0 installer. For example, I renamed my NeoOffice 2.2.5 installation /Applications/NeoOffice-2.2.5.app.
As for preferences, NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access keeps its own separate preferences in the following folder. When you first run NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access, it will automatically use the underlying OpenOffice.org 3.0 code to import your NeoOffice 2.2.x preferences:
~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-3.0

AFAICT yes. The only exception that I have seen is that .odb files created in OpenOffice.org 2.4 or later or NeoOffice 3.0 Early Access have an file format that is incompatible with OpenOffice.org 2.2.1 and NeoOffice 2.2.5.

OK thanks for the information and the very prompt reply. Also kudos for getting the EA release out a day early. |

Actually, I wasn't early as it was already 15 January in New Zealand when I pushed the release.

See also the wiki, which says more-or-less the same thing as Patrick
The only other exception to this rule is that if you also use an older version of Neo that has an older version of NeoLight or NeoPeek, the older version may cause Spotlight or Quick Look to stop working correctly for NeoOffice documents.

Yes I thought Patrick's answer might be what it was, but the wiki at the time clearly referred to 2.x.x, and I wanted to be 100% sure that the same was true of 3. |

Thankfully, Fran's been doing some dusting of articles that have been sitting around for a while

I am trying to get a few NeoWiki articles updated with NeoOffice 3.0 information and some are easier to update than others. Smokey is busy dusting as well.
