OK. I have an idea how I might be able to fix this bug. I will post a new test patch that you can try in a few hours.

Here is another test patch for you to try. Can you install the test patch and open a new empty Calc document? You should still see the bug like before so close the Calc document and open a second Calc document. Does the second Calc document look OK or does the bug still occur in the second Calc document?

The test patch does not provide the ideal fix for the bug, but it should allow you to make NeoOffice Calc usable if occurs on your machine by reopening your Calc documents:

First Calc document opened had the problem. Closed it and it is fixed for subsequent documents.

If I quit NeoOffice the pattern repeats. First spreadsheet opened is bad. Second is good.

So what is going on here exactly?

The problem is that you have a bad font and we cannot tell if it is bad until the font is actually used once. By then, NeoOfice's underlying Calc code has already used the font to calculate the widths of the labels and tabs. Calc does not notice that we have removed the bad font from the list of available fonts until when you open the next

Now that our code is detecting the bad font, in my next text I am going to replace the bad font's zero font width metric with a reasonable value (probably half the font height) so that the first Calc document that open is readable.

I will post another test patch hopefully later today.

Here is another test patch for you to try. Can you install the test patch and open a new empty Calc document? Does the bug still occur in the first Calc document that you open?

If the bug still occurs in the first Calc document, does my fix still work when you open a second Calc document?:

That is excellent news that the latest test patch finally fixes this Spotlight bug.

Thank you for helping test my various attempts to fix this bug. I will include the fix in the next official NeoOffice patch.

Please note that the next official NeoOffice patch will not be released for a week or two as the latest test patch also contains a fix for this Writer bug and I want to give people time to thoroughly test that bug fix so that I can include the fix for both your bug and that other bug in the next official NeoOffice patch.
