I've been using Tinkertool System to remove non-English language resources from leopard, to clear some extra space on my drive. All well, until I tried the new TTS v2.

There's a checkbox which lets you preserve other-language dictionaries etc. for spell-checking. The new version of TTS is a little buggy - this checkbox doesn't preserve its settings across launches, so the 2nd time I ran it, it wiped out all my French and German spelling dictionaries from leopard. Grrmbl.

Not a complete disaster though, I have TM backups so I can restore the files easily - but I have no idea where they live. Does anyone know where in the OSX folder hierarchy I would find these language components so I can get them back on board? I've tried extensive trawling of google, but I must be using the wrong terms, I can't find any reference there.

Of course, meanwhile it's forcing me to be more accurate in my French grammar/typing, so it's a blessing in disguise Smile.

Thanks in advance....

Problem solved -

/System/Library/Services/AppleSpell.service
and
/System/Library/Services/SummaryService.app

Of course, since they're running, Time Machine will not let me restore the old versions (yawn) so I had to boot into a backup drive to copy them over.

Suis restitué ! Smile
