Neo crashed again, this time just after a print command (although the item in question did print). Since the Exception and Codes are different than the last crash report, I'm attaching it, too.

I don't know if you saw my post in the bug, but I have attempted to fix the crashing and I have posted links to a new test patch in my last post in bug 3425.

Does NeoOffice still crash with this test patch? If so, does the crashing occur when grammarchecking is turned off? If yes, which version of LanguageTool are you using?

Thanks for all your hard work on this, Patrick. I did see the note in the bug and I have applied the test patch. It will probably be tomorrow before I can let you know about further crashes, as I have some other tasks I have to complete that don't involve using Neo.

I'm using version 0.9.6 of LanguageTool. I'm aware there's a newer version, which I'm downloading as we speak. I presume I should install it? Or do you want me to hold off on that?

Definitely uninstall 0.9.6 and install 0.9.7. LanguageTool has some serious bugs when used in NeoOffice 3.0 and OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 and hopefully they have fixed some of them in their latest release.

The recent crashes that you are experiencing look very similar to the crashes that were reported this morning in this forum topic which I think that I have now fixed. I have posted links to a test patch in my last post in bug 3425.

Can you install the test patch and tell us if the bug is fixed for you?

After installing test Patch 11 and upgrading LanguageTool to 0.9.7 last night, I did some experimental copy/paste work in Calc, since that's where I first saw problems. I did not experience any hangs or crashes.

I have just installed test patch 12. I'm under the gun to get some other things done, so probably won't have time to test very extensively until Sunday at the earliest. I will be working with Neo for some of what I need to do, so if the crashing bug is still there I may run into it before Sunday. I will be sure to report any crashes ASAP.

Otherwise, assume that no news is good news, and I'll try to give you a more definitive answer early next week.

Of course it doesn't happen when I'm testing for it, only when I'm trying to get work done Wink .

I was working in a Calc document, with a couple of Writer docs containing Calc OLES open as well when Neo hung. i was trying to enter a formula into the Calc document.

I'm attaching the sample. This is with test patch 12 installed.

Thanks for the sample. It appears to be another deadlock similar to the original hanging bug, just the location of the deadlock has changed. Sad

FYI. I think I have found a more systemic way to avoid these deadlocks and I will post a test patch later today.

In the meantime, is it possible to roll back to test patch 11 by rerunning that installer?

If you have a copy of test patch 11, then yes. Note that I am uploading test patch 13 right now so that will be available very shortly.

I have finished uploading the latest test patch that refactors the menu updating code to hopefully avoid the deadlocking systematically. I have posted links to the test patch in my last post in bug 3425.

Can you install the test patch and tell us if the bug is fixed for you?

I spent an hour or so this morning working in Neo, with both Calc and Writer documents and I did not experience any hangs or crashes. Based on that rather limited time, I would say the bug appears to be fixed. I'll let you know if I run into any more trouble, but my schedule is such that I'm not likely to log a lot of time in NeoOffice for the next couple of days (meetings, meetings, meetings!)

I have noticed later today that there is a delay in pasting. Now when I paste something, I get a spinning blue ball for a second or two before the paste happens. I don't remember that happening before. I'm guessing that it is unavoidable, but I thought I'd mention it.

What you are probably seeing is NeoOffice's updating the of the menubar which tells me that my fix is working. Since it is happening synchronously now, that step must complete before the actual pasting step is done. Previously with the asynchronous menubar update, the substeps each both step would be interleaved but that had the potential for deadlocking.

FWIW, I think the size of the data being copied may be what is causing the delay. For me, when I copy and paste only a few paragraphs in Writer or a few cells in Calc, there is no delay and I can only see the spinning blue ball in Calc for a slight moment.

I encountered this bug once yesterday so although it is fixed in most cases, there is still a small chance of this deadlock occurring.

I have fixed the remaining deadlocking that I encountered and posted links to both NeoOffice 2.2.5 and NeoOffice 3.0 test patches in my last post in bug 3425.

Can you install the test patch and tell us if the bug is still fixed for you?
