After ending a presentation, the buttons Normal / Outline / Notes / Handout / Slide Order don't work.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open new blank presentation (hit Create in Presentation Wizard after File :: New :: Presentation).
  2. Click on the Slide Show button
  3. Hit escape to stop the slide show
  4. The buttons Normal / Outline / Notes / Handout / Slide Order are note responsive any more. To reactivate them, you have to reopen the presentation document.
Working with NeoOffice 3.0 EA 2 patch 1 test 12 on Intel.

Thank you for the clear steps to reproduce the bug, but I do not experience the same problem on my machine. I also ran a Slide Show on an existing presentation and did not lose functionality of the Normal | Outline | Notes | Handout | Slide Sorter buttons in the middle column of Impress after the Slide Show was over.

I have two suggestions for you to try:

1. I am running Test Patch 15, and although I do not recall Patrick making any changes to Impress there may be a fix there. Here are links to to that test patch, which is the latest test patch:

Intel:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.0_Early_Access_2-Patch-1-Test-15-Intel.dmg

PowerPC:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.0_Early_Access_2-Patch-1-Test-15-PowerPC.dmg

2. If that does not solve the problem the next thing to check is corruption in your user preference files.

Can you try the following steps if you are still experiencing the problem? These steps will force NeoOffice to create a new set of user preference files with default values:

- Quit NeoOffice

- Move the following folders if they exist to the Desktop or Trash. Note that "~" means your Home folder:

~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-2.2
~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-3.0

- Restart NeoOffice

Do either of these two solutions work for you?

No. Note that you can actually activate said buttons at all times, but after you ran a presentation activating the buttons does not correspond to any action (which should be a switch to the corresponding view mode).

Interestingly this does work for me. When I select the buttons after running a slide show the view changes as expected. I even created a new set of user preferences for myself to see if that made a difference, but still the buttons changed the view as they should.

However, I tried this on another machine and I do see the issue you reported. I am not sure why this is since both my machines are similar (PPC running Mac OS X 10.4.11.)

One more question for you, does the view change when selecting the menu View :: Notes Page or View :: Handout Page? I am guessing the answer will be "no" based on what I see on my second machine.

You got that one right: no view change after running a presentation, no matter if I click the buttons or select the menu commands.

Strangely, I can reproduce this bug on both of my Intel and PowerPC Mac OS X 10.4.11 machines but narf cannot.

narf and I will try to identify if there are differences in the files in her installation compared to mine. In theory, we should have identical installations.

One difference between my machine that worked and the others we tested on is that it has two monitors. I removed one of the monitors and lost the ability to change the views in Impress.

Because of this I looked to see if the Sun Microsystems Presenter Console extension was a factor. I was able to remove it through the command line and that restored the ability to change views in Impress after running a slide show. So the bug is in that extension.

I will open a bug to track this issue and will report the bug number in this forum topic.

I have created Bug 3434 to track this issue. Please add your name to the CC: list in the bug if you would like to track the progress of the bug.

FYI: I found Issue 92574 in OpenOffice.org's IssueTracker which looks to be the same issue. The fix for that will appear in OpenOffice.org 3.1.

Ok, I've read there that it is fixed in the NeoOffice code base. Great!

Late last night I was able to backport OpenOffice.org's fix for this bug and include the fix in today's NeoOffice 3.0 release to Early Access Program members.

While I normally would have waited for OpenOffice.org's fix until the next time we upgrade to a new OpenOffice.org version, this bug causes NeoOffice to crash if you select the Slideshow :: Slideshow menu a second time.

In any case, NeoOffice 3.0 has the fix and is now available for Early Access Members from the Early Access Program download page.
