For those more technically inclined...the problem is that the OOo/go-oo sources are no longer fully compatible with the older gcc3 compilers without quite a bit of effort going into fixing problems in the code (and probably introducing a lot more). Since we needed that to continue 10.3 support, and that 10.3 is rather old by now, we decided we couldn't spend the large amount of effort on it. The gcc4 runtime libraries on 10.3 have never worked for the way everything is linked.
