|
Hi.
I am a relatively new mac convert and I must say I have been very pleasantly pleased with the experience.
I have been a longtime advocate of Openoffice.Org on the PC and a recent convert to Neooffice.
One problem has arrisen though, I can't open an excel workbook created by my financial advisor using Calc. It always opens as a table in Writer/Web. It us unusable in that appliation. I need to be able to load this data directly into Calc.
I can load it into Excel/Windows Vista, save it to another .xls file and then read it correctly into Neooffice V3 and Openoffice V3.0.1.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. If I need to gather additional information, please tell me what you need and I will attempt to get it for you.
Thanks, |

Just to check the obvious, first - does the original file (that doesn't load in Calc) have the .xls extension on its filename?

Opening auto-generated xls files in Calc is probably what you want.
I thought that auto-opening these types of files in Calc worked OK in 3.0, as I thought I recalled opening one recently, but I guess I was mistaken.

Yes, definitely look at that article as many auto-generated files with an .xls extension are not actually Excel files and, in many cases, they are in the Character Separated Values (CSV) file format. If the file is really in the CSV file format, you will need to change the file extension to .csv for NeoOffice to open it in Calc.

Based on your comment about .xls files not really being .xls files, I searched the Openoffice.org forum and I found a post that said they changed the extension from .xls to .xml and Calc could read the file. I tried it, and guess what, IT WORKED!!!!!!!!.
Thx for pointing me in the right direction.
