I use style sheets and find them indispensable. However, I have noticed that in NeoOffice (and OpenOffice), the soft return causes all kinds of formatting issues. For instance, if I have a style with hanging indent, and want to continue the thought, but want a new line, I hit soft return (SHIFT + RETURN). In other word processors (Nisus Writer Pro, Mellel, Papyrus, etc.), the second line will line up with the indent. It looks that way in NeoOffice/OpenOffice, but once I finish that line and hit the normal RETURN, that formatting is lost.

Am I missing something?

Ah, nuts. This was to be posted in the normal Support thread, not the Random Whatnot. Sorry, guys.

shades,

I have not been able to reproduce the formatting you see. Here are the steps I tried:

1. Open a new Writer document and select Format :: Styles and Formatting menu to open the Styles and Formatting window.

2. Double-click on the "Hanging indent" choice in the Styles and Formatting window.

3. Enter some text and then use Shift-Return to insert a soft return. Result: The new line is indented.

4. Use Return to insert a hard return when finished. Result: the text after the soft return text remains indented and the cursor is not indented.

I have two questions for you:

What are the exact steps you are using?

What version of NeoOffice are you using? You can check your version of NeoOffice by selecting the Help :: About NeoOffice menu.

I followed the same steps as noted above. It didn’t seem to work when I used 3.0.1 Patch 2. But last night I downloaded Patch 3 and it works now.

Hmmmm, maybe I am suffering old-age-itis.

Thanks. Smile

Don't be too hard on yourself. I prefer to think it was fixed in Patch 3.
