|
Is there a way to convert a formatted .odt file into a completely unformatted .txt file in Neo Office. I have tried saving as a .txt from NeoOffice but it seems to retain formatting code when I view it on my mobile phone (G1/Google phone) using the app AK Notepad? |

I see no formatting codes when NeoOffice saves as .txt. Are you sure that AK Notepad expects Windows new line characters? Since NeoOffice is a Mac OS X application, it saves .txt files with the Unix/Mac OS X newline character, not the Windows characters.
Edit: If you any non-ASCII characters in your document, are the "formatting codes" you see where the non-ASCII characters should be?

Sorry I have mixed up my mobile devices as I have been switching around so many times and ways to try and get the .txt files to display properly.
1. Where I see the formatting code is when the .txt file is displayed thru uing Notes on my (5th Generation) Ipod...?
2. On my mobile (G1) the .txt file does not show formatting code, but has extra spaces between all the letters? I don't have any Windows apps (I don't think) as it's all done on my Mac and on my G1 (which is Android/OpenSource)... |

I do not see formatting marks when I save a .txt file to my iPod. Following are the steps I used in NeoOffice:
1. Select the File :: Save As menu
2. In the dialog that opens, give the file a name and choose Text (.txt) from the File Type pull down menu
3. Press the Save button
4. Mount iPod and drag the .txt file to the Notes folder on the iPod
Are you using different steps to create a .txt file?
Also, what version of NeoOffice are you using? You can check the version by selecting the Help :: About NeoOffice menu.

Thanks Narf, I have now got it displaying properly on my Ipod (save for a few Non-ASCI characters which I will remove manually).
Anyone with further ideas for AK Notepad on the G1 please let me know. |

AK Notepad is probably using a different character set than NeoOffice. NeoOffice, by default, saves .txt files using the UTF-8 character set but some applications assume files are in the ISO-8859-1 or Mac Roman character set. So, you might want to see if there is a preference in AK Notepad for using the UTF-8 character set when opening .txt files.

FWIW, "spaces between the letters" is sometimes a symptom of attempting to display a UTF-16-encoded document as if it were UTF-8.
