I opened an HTML document and was undoing a paste into a table in that document when NeoOffice crashed silently. Crash log is attached.

Can you give us exact steps, including a sample document if necessary, to reproduce the crash? I have not been able to reproduce it on my system.

Also, were you using the latest NeoOffice 3.0 test patch? If not, can you install NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 3 that I released a few minutes ago and see if you can reproduce the crashing with that patch?

I have now tried this again. First checking the repeatability of the crash with Patch 2 and then trying again after installing Patch 3. Unfortunately it is still occurring.
Here are the steps to reproduce:- In NO, open the attached html and odt files.
- In the html file select all the contents of the diary table.
- In the odt file select all the contents of the table. Go back to the html file and use Cmd-Shift-V for Paste Special and choose Unformatted text.
- The paste takes quite a while to execute, when it is finished use Cmd-Z to undo the paste.
- At this point NO crashes silently.
I don't know if there is value in attaching lots of crash logs, but here they are anyway. Crash Log 2 was me verifying the repeatability of the crash in Patch 2 Crash Logs 3 & 4 (in the next post) are me reproducing it with Patch 3 installed. |

Thank you for providing the sample documents and the steps to reproduce the crash. I can also reproduce the crash on my G5 running 10.4.11.
I have opened bug 3488 to track this. When there is status to report from the bug, it will be posted here.

Ooops. Ignore my last post. I have not fixed this yet. I had forgotten that I need to paste as unformatted text to reproduce this bug.

OK. I think that I have fixed this bug. Can you install the following test patch and tell us if the bug is fixed for you?:
Intel:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.0-Patch-3-Test-2-Intel.dmg
PowerPC:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.0-Patch-3-Test-2-PowerPC.dmg
BTW. This was a particularly nasty bug. I found that the cause is that the OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 code cannot properly always handle the case where a "#" character is at the end of a line so I fixed this bug by a hack: when OpenOffice.org asks NeoOffice's code which characters in a paragraph will fit on a line of a given length and a "#" character would be the last character in that line, the NeoOffice code now pushes all trailing "#" characters to the next line.

Well done Patrick for tracking down this obscure bug and fixing it. I can confirm that it has solved the problem for me. As you may have appreciated the Paste Unfomatted text was a mistake (and takes a long time to execute on my machine), hence the Cmd-Z to undo it - so I have been avoiding making that mistake. Many thanks again for fixing this.

FYI. The fix for this bug is included in NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 4. You can download the patch from the following URL:
