OK, I get that Impress has been updated to change the text size automatically if the text box is too small, so everything fits. Is there an option to retain the old way (that is, to keep the text the same size even if it goes beyond the text box boundaries)? I agree with Peter: I want the text size to be the same from one slide to the next, and will make the necessary adjustments to do so. Thanks.

You should be able to set Impress text boxes to expand when there is too much text instead of shrinking the text to fit. Can you try the following steps and tell us if it stops the shrinking text size?:

1. Control-click in a text box and in the popup menu that appears, select the Text menu.

2. In the dialog that appears, click on the Text tab.

3. In your case, the "Fit to frame" checkbox is likely checked. Uncheck this checkbox.

4. After unchecking the "Fit to frame" checkbox, the "Fit width to text" and "Fit height to text" checkboxes should become enabled. You probably want to check the "Fit height to text" box.

5. Click the OK button to close the dialog.

Thank you, Patrick. It does prevent text shrinkage, for that page. This will be OK. I guess I should put in a request for a global switch, no?

Actually, NeoOffice's default behavior when adding a new text box is to have the "Fit to frame" checkbox unchecked. I suspect that at some point (maybe an earlier version of NeoOffice) this default setting was changed or you opened a document that another user created who had changed this default setting.

Either way, you can change the default setting back by doing the following steps:

1. Unselect all objects by pressing the Escape key a few times and wait a moment for all object selection borders disappear

2. Select the Format :: Text menu. In the dialog that appears, click on the Text tab, uncheck the "Fit to frame" checkbox, and press the OK button.

After doing these steps, new text boxes should not have the "Fit to frame" checkbox checked.

Does changing the default setting using these steps work for you?

Oops ... it seems that when I start a new slide, and select a layout that has a bulleted list, the "Fit to frame" box comes up checked after typing text in the body, right clicking, and choosing "Text". This is in spite of the global setting "fit to frame" box *not* being checked.

In those cases, the OpenOffice.org engineers seem to have created a separate global setting for that type of text boxes. To turn off that separate global setting, click on one of those bulleted text boxes to select it, then Control-click on the selection border that appears. You should see an Autofit Text menu in the popup menu. If it is checked, select that menu to uncheck it.

Unchecked it should stop the automatic resizing of text in bulleted text boxes. Does it do that for you?

Yes, Patrick, that does it. Thank you. I now know the rules.
