PostPosted: Thu Mar 04, 2010 7:22 pm    Post subject: NeoOffice 3.1.1 Icons

I am slowly making progress on upgrading the NeoOffice code to use the OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 code and Novell's Go-oo 3.1.1.1 code modifications. If all goes well, I hope to have an NeoOffice 3.1.1 Early Access release available by mid April 2010.

I have two questions for the icon designers:

1. Does the current icon set in NeoOffice 3.0.2 work in OpenOffice.org 3.1.1? If any icons don't seem to work, can you look into what changes to the icon set are needed?

2. Do you want to add or replace any of your custom icons?

If any changes are wanted or needed and the icon designers can get their changes done by 1 April 2010, I can definitely include them in the NeoOffice 3.1.1 Early Access release.

I'll ping Armando. Hopefully we can put our heads together and give you answers soon.

FYI. I split my previous post into a new forum topic. I had meant to do that when I made my first post, but I accidentally posted it onto the end of an old forum topic.

I think the format brush is hideously ugly. But the icon I sent in long ago didn't win any following, so I reluctantly live with it..

Other than that the icons seem pretty good to me, but maybe that is because I haven't delved into every little corner of the UI..

Best wishes,
Oscar

Hello,

I'll take a look to this. Just a question: where do I can download OOo 3.1.1 for PPC? Confused

Regards,

Some OpenOffice.org volunteers have built the OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 code on both Intel and PowerPC and their builds are downloadable from here.

This is my concern also, that there may be deep dark corners of NeoOffice that I never see that still need Akua icons. If any user discovers an icon or a set of icons that need Akua replacements, then by all means tell us here.

Armando: I'm happy to create some more icons, if you have a list of any that need doing. Though I think we covered most of the leftovers last time.

Hello,

I've done some testing and it seems that everything works fine. Here's a sample iconset to install in OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 for testing:

Daniel:

May be it's time to upgrade the folder icons to a more "Leopard-esque" style. What do you think?

I'm not Daniel, but one thought: on the one hand, the folder in, e.g., the "Open" toolbar icon looks a little dated, but on the other hand, 10.5-style folders are much darker and I wonder how they'll fit with the "lighter" style of the rest of the toolbar icons (particularly as NeoOffice doesn't have a dark, Unified toolbar to begin with).

It would be nice to keep pace with the Leopard UI. The original Aqua style (stripes and lots of cyan) is becoming less and less prominent in OS X. I think the Leopard folder icon in list-mode Finder windows is sharp and clean, and it would be nice to adopt it. I don't see a problem with adjusting the shade of the new folder icons to best suit the toolbar.

Armando: I will re-do the icon for Preferences > Load/Save, and any others you ask me to do. Will post a preview, of course.

You can find attached a preview of the new My Documents folder and the new Load / Save Preferences icon. It occurred to me that the Load / Save icon should be a generic drive to match Armando's Save toolbar icon. I think my other icons in the Templates and Documents window are looking tired nowadays, so I might redo them.

Daniel and Armando,

If you can upload a new images.zip in the next couple days, I can include it in my next NeoOffice 3.1.1 Beta build.

I will then send you and the Trinity moderators my build so that you can double check that my build does not mess up any of the icons.
