OK. I looked at your latest sample file and it definitely shows that the file dialog is still open. I am afraid that maybe something was lost in my translation of your French posts so I must ask you the following:

1. When NeoOffice hangs, is the file dialog still visible?

2. If it is still visible and you press the file dialog's Cancel button, does the file dialog disappear or does it remain on screen?

3. If the file dialog disappears, does NeoOffice still remain frozen?

Bonjour

What is strange is that your sample shows the NeoOfice has displayed Apple's file dialog and Apple's file dialog is just waiting for mouse and keyboard events.

But since you do not see a file dialog, I have two things for you to try:

1. Quit NeoOffice

2. Delete the following file. This file is where Apple's file dialog stores the default dialog size, position on screen, and other data. If this file becomes corrupted, potentially Apple's file dialog code will stop working. Note: "~" means your home folder:

~/Library/Preferences/org.neooffice.NeoOffice.plist

3. Restart NeoOffice

4. If the hanging still occurs, press the Escape key on your keyboard. Does that end the hanging? If so, then the problem is that Apple's code is displaying file dialog is being outside of your screen's edges. Pressing the Escape key works because it is a key shortcut for the Cancel key.

Bonjour Patrick

It definitely sounds like the file dialog is being displayed but it is positioned outside of the screen's edges. Can you try the following?:

1. Launch the /Applications/TextEdit appliction and select the File :: Open menu. Does the file dialog appear or does the TextEdit application hang?

2. In NeoOffice, select the File :: Open dialog. If it is not displayed, press Control and Right Arrow keys and move through each of the Mac OS X "spaces" on your machine. By default there are 4 spaces. Do you see the file dialog in any of the spaces?

3. Launch the System Preferences application and click on the Displays icon. Is there an Arrangement tab? If so, can you click on that tab and tell us how many monitors are displayed?

Merci

I do not know why the file dialog would appear offscreen either. That was my theory as to what was happening based on the following two facts: the file dialog is not visible to you but all of your sample files show that the file dialog is displayed and waiting for keyboard and mouse events.

I suspect that the Mac OS X preference file that Mac OS X stores file dialog display preferences (last folder viewed, dialog window position and size, etc.) is becoming corrupted at some point. After it becomes corrupted, Mac OS X starts opening the dialog offscreen.

I do not know what would cause that corruption, but if you encounter the hanging again, you should be able to press the Escape key to unhang NeoOffice. Pressing the Escape key will close the file dialog that is offscreen.

Bonjour Patrick
