I have just had a silent crash. I double clicked an ods spreadsheet to open it. This brought up the crash recovery dialogue and duly recovered and opened two files from a previous crash (of which I was unaware). I clicked the close button on one of the files, and NO silently failed. Crash log attached. (NO 3.1.1 Patch 0 iBook 1.33 GHz 1.5GB PowerPC G4, OS X)

So does this crashing behavior happen when you install the latest test patch? The latest test patch fixes crashing bug 3603. Below are links to the latest test patch:

Intel:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.1.1-Patch-0-Test-10-Intel.dmg

PowerPC:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.1.1-Patch-0-Test-10-PowerPC.dmg

If the crashing occurs in the latest test patch, your crash log indicates that you have the following system hack on your machine. System hacks inject their code into all running applications and we have found that bugs in some system hacks can cause applications like NeoOffice to hang, crash or otherwise behave incorrectly in unexpected places in the code:

/Library/InputManagers/iCalFix

NeoOffice should not crash so can you try disabling this system hack, rebooting your machine, and tell us if the crashing still occurs?

If the crashing still occurs, please post a new crash log as it is likely that the location of the crash will change without the system hacks. Also, can you provide list of steps that we can use to trigger this crashing bug?

To disable this system hack, move the above folder to your Desktop and reboot. You can find the folder by double-clicking on the main volume icon on your desktop and, in the Finder window that appears, navigating down through the Library and InputManagers subfolders.

Thanks for the reply Patrick. I will install the test patch, and if the crash repeats I will uninstall iCalFix (why Apple couldn't have put this obvious functionality into iCal from the beginning, I do not know).

I'll post again here if the crash repeats.

It's obviously not my IT day today, I've just spent about an hour on the phone and twice as long off messing about with my router when it turns out that it was my ISP's servers that were down all the time. Evil or Very Mad Why they couldn't just have told me that, and encouraged me to save the existing router configuration rather than having to reset it all from scratch when it turned out that there had been nothing wrong with it all the time Rolling Eyes

It's at times like this that NeoOffice's support shines out like a good deed in a very naughty world.

I now think that your crash is the same crashing bug as bug 3609. I fixed that OpenOffice.org crashing bug today.

Can you install the following test patch and tell us if the bug is fixed for you?:

Intel:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.1.1-Patch-0-Test-12-Intel.dmg

PowerPC:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.1.1-Patch-0-Test-12-PowerPC.dmg

OK, I am just downloading Patch 0 Test 12. I should say, however, that the problem has not recurred since I applied Patch 0 Test 10.

FYI. The fix for this bug is included in NeoOffice 3.1.1 Patch 1. You can download the patch from the NeoOffice patch download page.
