|
Today I had 3 or 4 cases of the Drag from the Find box not working.
Each was right after the auto save executed and I was ready to drag the text.
The easiest recovery is still to close the Find dialog and cmd+F again.
This is with NeoOffice-3.1.2-Patch-4-Test-2-Intel.
I thought it had something to do with the stacking of windows but I was not able to do that when I tried, even though it seemed to be after I brought forward another Safari window and switched to my destination and then the Find. Probably the length of time required.
(It would be nice if after opening the Book it would not start a save almost immediately. Is it looking at clock time and not the elapsed CPU time? Could it?)
The Auto-Save may be why it seemed random and hard to reproduce.
I have not seen a crash with your latest, thanks.

I am not certain of the exact logic of NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org autosave code, but I believe that it the autosave internal starts from when you launch NeoOffice. In other words, in you have set the autosave interval to 15 minutes, an autosave timer will fire 15 minutes after you launch NeoOffice and repeat 15 minutes after that. When the timer fires, the timer will autosave all open documents.

With the Find Dialog up, double click on the Calc sheet's title bar to send it to the launch bar. Click to bring it back, and the Find text box(es) are not available to drag. Ta-da. Hope this help localize the problem.

Thank you for the steps. I can now reproduce this bug. Minimizing the document is definitely the trigger for this bug.
I have created bug 3649 and I will begin investigating the cause. When I have a fix for this bug, I will post a test patch for you to try.

I think that I have fixed the two remaining drag and drop bugs reported in this forum topic:
- Dragging text from the Calc edit field to the Desktop creates an empty .textClippping file
- Minimizing a document window when disables dragging in any attached non-modal dialogs and utility windows
Interestingly, I found that the first bug is actually an OpenOffice.org bug and is triggered when you have either Asian or complex text support enabled in NeoOffice's language preferences. By default, NeoOffice has both enabled whereas OpenOffice.org does not so I could not reproduce this OpenOffice.org bug in OpenOffice.org until I found the cause of the bug.
Can you install the following test patch and tell us if the above two bugs are fixed for you?:
Intel:

PowerPC:

Both text drag from a calc cell and drag from Find dialog seem to work right away. I did notice the patch download was larger 14.9 vs 12.1MB but it did not ask for more space to install and I think the sizes are similar. I do have to be careful on cell drag not to highlight everything I cross.
Thanks from every user for your PROMPT attention.

If you put up the Find dialog, refocus on the Calc sheet, and then you save or auto-save, the focus with be on the Find Dialog and not where it was.
I don't know if this is worth pursuing because your attention will have been diverted by the (auto) save, anyway.

I cannot reproduce this. When I save an existing Calc document, the Find dialog is open, and the Calc document window has focus, the focus remains on the Calc document window during and after saving.
I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger so maybe this only occurs on Snow Leopard? I'll reboot into Snow Leopard later tonight and see.

I can now reproduce this in both NeoOffice and OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 (the version that NeoOffice 3.1.2 is based on) so this is an OpenOffice.org behavior. In most Calc documents, the Find dialog will remain visible during the entire save operation so you will not see the behavior that you describe. However, in certain Calc documents (like your sample document in this forum topic), NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code will close the Find dialog at the start of the save operation and then reopen the dialog and make it the active window at the end of the save operation.
Unfortunately, our very limited donations only supports one part time developer (me) so this limits the current scope of the NeoOffice project to keeping a native version of OpenOffice.org running on Mac OS X and fixing any critical crashing and hanging bugs that our users find. Because of these limits, fixing OpenOffice.org feature bugs like this one is outside of that scope.

FYI. The fixes for the empty .textClipping file and the minimizing document disabling drag and drop bugs have been included in NeoOffice 3.1.2 Patch 5 and NeoOffice 3.2 Beta.
