Ok here's the problem.
I am trying to install open office on my powerbook, and it just stops at that splash screen after you authenticate. Now I have been reading these forums and other help files for hours and i have not been able to get it to work.
I installed open office on someone else's computer 2 days ago - using the same .dmg file as I am trying to use now.
I have tried leaving the system for a while to see if it progresses slowly - it does not.
I am running 10.3.6 with 640mb of ram and i have in excess of 25gb free. I have X11 installed - the user package downloaded from apple (just to make sure).
I have no idea why it isnt working. If you could help to get this application goind it would be great.

OK, as far as I know the splashscreen freezing problem is best worked around by creating a fresh user account and then installing from that account. I'm not exactly sure why that helps, but sardisson (?) found that workaround a while back.
The OOo installer and its hundreds of files seems to be pushing the limit for what the early versions of ZeroG can handle. The reason I stuck with ZeroG was because it had the ability to do the graphical feedback and warnings that were missing from the apple installer at the time. That'll change with 10.4
If the installer still doesn't work...download Neo/J instead. It uses the Apple installer and doesn't have as many options since it doesn't have to worry about that stupid X11 thing...
