I use a macbook pro - so not a huge screen. I love Lion's full screen mode but neo office won't let me display toolbars in full screen. So if I'm in full screen I sacrifice functionality. Surely the point of full screen is to have enough space to show toolbars and the page at the same time?

The hiding of the toolbars is from NeoOffice's undelrying OpenOffice.org code. I suspect that the OpenOffice.org engineers originally hid the toolbars because until only few years ago, most laptops had very small screens.

I am pretty confident that it is feasible for us to change the OpenOffice.org code to not hide the toolbars.

Since this new feature request is feasible, the only other thing that we need to see is whether enough other donors also want us to implement simon_e's proposed change. Although I don't expect that this change will require a lot of engineering time, I want to make sure that enough of our donors want this change so that we are confident that most full screen users are OK with this change.

I have a pretty good idea of the amount of engineering work needed to implement simon_e's proposed change so if at least 10 other NeoOffice donors who regularly use the Mac OS X full screen feature reply to this post that they also want this change, then we will have a pretty good level of confidence that the new feature will be well accepted.

Is this a change that any other NeoOffice donors want to see added to NeoOffice? If so, please let us know.

I would think this a useful feature.

Best wishes,
Oscar

I support the change for full screen. I use a Macbook Pro also.

I noticed that this new feature request got 3 of the 10 votes needed very quickly but then no more votes have come in since then so I am posting to "bump" this new feature request to see if gets any more votes.

I can't say I need this change - personally I do not use full screen modes - but I think the proposed change is a sensible one.

I have some good news: I took some time this weekend to see what is needed to implement this new feature request and I found that I only needed to comment out a small section of OpenOffice.org code.

Since much less work than I expected was needed to implement this new feature request, in the following test patch I have disabled hiding of the toolbars and status bar when in full screen mode. Also, since the Mac OS X menubar remains visible and active when in full screen mode, I have disabled display of the "Full Screen" button.

For users that still want the toolbars and/or status bar hidden can hide them by unchecking the View :: Toolbars or View :: Status Bar menus.

Can anyone test this new feature? Note: this new feature only affects Writer and Calc. The toolbars and status bar did not automatically hide when using Draw, Impress, or Base in full screen mode.:

Thanks.
