FYI. I have implemented a fix for OpenOffice.org crashing bug #107344 and Ubuntu crashing bug #374364.

The fix for both bugs is in the following test patches for anyone who wants to test the fix. The crashing bugs occur when opening certain .pptx files that have diagrams in them:

NeoOffice 3.4:

NeoOffice 2013.1:

I can confirm the crashing bugs you list and that installing NeoOffice 3.4 Patch 0 Test 6 resolves them.

The "Mac vs. PC.pptx.ppt" file does not display properly in NeoOffice, though I imagine this is probably beyond the scope of what you want to do. I attach screen shots for completeness.

Yours,

Andy

Unfortunately what you see is a different OpenOffice.org bug. The OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 code that NeoOffice is based on is unable to import the slide's gray background setting. The text in the 2 text boxes is still there, but since the text is white, it is not visible against the default white background.

While the OpenOffice.org bug was fixed in OpenOffice.org 3.4.1, I was unable to backport it into NeoOffice due to several incompatible changes between OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 and 3.4.1.

Fortunately there is a workaround for this OpenOffice.org bug. Since only the background color setting is lost when importing the .pptx file, changing the slide background color or the text to a non-white color will make the text visible again. In the attached screen snapshot, I changed the background color by selecting the Format :: Page menu and, in the dialog that appears, setting the "Fill" setting to gray.
