|
Hi,
I am trying to pin down the cause where I get pdf documents with only empty pages and/or empty print jobs, and this looks to be the problem:
I'm having difficulty with the Options->NeoOffice Writer->Print options to stick. Every time I enter this dialog all settings are unchecked/empty. I tried removing the NeoOffices preferences plist, and also made a new test account with the same result.
Running 3.4p0 on 10.9. Basically a fresh install on a new laptop.
Kind regards,
Ben |

Are you talking about the options in the native print dialog like in the attached screen snapshot? If so, those settings are managed by your printer driver, not NeoOffice so every printer will behave differently. For example, as shown in the attached image, my HP printer driver has a "Last Used Settings" option. Maybe yours has one or maybe your printer driver is not working well with Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

No, I mean the Options dialog from the Tools menu.

Thank you for the screen snapshot. I can reproduce what you see on all versions of Mac OS X.
This same bug is in NeoOffice 3.3 but not in NeoOffice 3.2.1 so I suspect that one or more of the changes we made when we switched from Java to Cocoa back in early 2012.
I will investigate and when I find a fix, I will post a test patch for you to try.

FYI. Although I don't have a fix yet, I did find that my fix for this crashing bug in NeoOffice 3.3 Patch 8 is what is causing this bug.

I think that I have fixed this bug without breaking my fix for this crashing bug.
The fix is in the following test patches. Can you install the applicable test patch and tell us if the bug is fixed for you?:
NeoOffice 3.4:
http://nick.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.4-Patch-0-Test-1-Intel.dmg
NeoOffice 2013.1:
http://nick.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-2013.1-Test-2-Intel.dmg
Note: you may want to reset your NeoOffice Writer :: Print settings to the default values. To reset these values, do the following steps:
1. Quit NeoOffice.
2. Delete the following files. "~" means your Home folder:
NeoOffice 3.4:
~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-3.0/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Writer.xcu
NeoOffice 2013.1:
~/Library/Containers/org.neooffice.NeoOfficeSecureEdition/Data/Library/Preferences/NeoOfficeSecureEdition/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Writer.xcu
3. Restart NeoOffice

Hi Patrick,
Thanks, that solved the problem! I did trash the preferences to get back to the defaults. (Only tested the 3.4 patch.)
Kind regards,

Although the previous test patch fixes the original bug, I suspect that many users won't find my post about deleting the Writer.xcu user preference and, as a result, they will wonder why printing in Writer won't print any images or tables.
So, in the following test patches I added code that will reset the most common Writer print options - print graphics, tables, controls, drawings, page background, left page, right page, and empty pages - to checked the first time that you open a Writer document after install the test patch.
This resetting of Writer print options will only happen once so if you uncheck any of the above settings, they should remain unchecked.
To test the new code, uncheck any of the above Writer print options before you install either of the following test patches. Then, after you install either of test patches and open a Writer document, the above Writer print options should show as checked:
NeoOffice 3.4:
http://nick.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.4-Patch-0-Test-4-Intel.dmg
NeoOffice 2013.1:
http://nick.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-2013.1-Test-5-Intel.dmg

Yes, that worked. I unchecked all options, installed the patch, and when I checked the options, they were indeed put back to the default.

I've installed 2013.1 test 5 (and now test 6) and it has resolved for me the issues with the print preferences in Writer not holding.

FYI. I have included the fix for this bug in NeoOffice 3.4.1 which can be downloaded from the NeoOffice download page.

FYI. I have included the fix for this bug in NeoOffice 2013.2 which is available in Apple's Mac App Store.
