Posted: Sat Apr 12, 2014 10:35 am Post subject: QuickTime deprecated in the Mac App Store
When we tried to submit a NeoOffice update to the Mac App Store yesterday, our binary was rejected due to using deprecated APIs. Specifically, Apple has deprecated QuickTime in OS X 10.9 Mavericks and NeoOffice uses QuickTime to play any videos in documents.
Apple has a replacement API called AVKit and it is now high on our priority list. However, on OS 10.8 and earlier, AVKit does not have all of the APIs that we need so we can't remove QuickTime.
To solve this dilemma, I have modified our video code to dynamically load QuickTime and the modified code in the following test patches. There should be no change in behavior when playing videos with the new code:
