PostPosted: Thu Dec 16, 2004 7:38 am    Post subject: A change in my circumstances may stop me helping out

Hi there,

from 1st Jan I shall become unemployed for an indefinite period of time (which isn't such a bad thing, btw), but it does mean that I am not going to have access to the internet on my own computer - other than on the rare occasions I manage to find a cafe with a wireless network and can afford to use it (I don't have a connection at home). Owing to that, it is likely that I won't be able to help out very much if at all for at least a few months, so I just wanted to wish Ed, Patrick and the rest of you volunteers the best of luck with the release of the beta* and also of the final when it arrives. It's been a huge pleasure to be able to offer what little service I could to two extremely dedicated folks who deserve a great deal of respect for their tremendous efforts in getting NeoOffice(/J) to the remarkable state that it is already in! My metaphorical hat is off to the both of you.

Cheers,

Jonathan.

* and if you could get the beta done before Wednesday next week so that I can download it before I lose my net connection, I'd be eternally grateful!

That's a half joke... it'll be ready when its ready of course but it'd be hellishly nice to have it. Wink

I'm sorry to hear that, Jonathan. Best of luck trying to find a new job (I am in the same situation) and I hope to see you back here soon Smile.

And enjoy the holidays, whatever else comes!

Thanks very much for all your help!! I do wish you the best of luck and hope things look up for you. I know I'd go crazy if I didn't have a connection...heck, I go crazy if I don't have a fast connection, much less none at all Wink

Good luck with your job hunt and don't forget to take some time to relax. Last time I switched jobs I took 1 day off (silly things called bills were a problem...) and since then the 2 weeks only a year has been a harsh reality.

Thanks for the sentiments - believe me, I am very much looking forward to the break and I've been saving for the past year to give me some leeway as to how long I can take off for my "holiday".

FWIW, I won't be totally devoid of a net connection. Luckily for us Brits, Public Libraries supply free access to the net, but only via their own PCs, and I live just up the road from my local one. I'll just be unable to download anything onto my PowerBook, that's all - which will stop me from carrying on any testing. Crying or Very sad

Be sure to download "Patch-9" that I just uploaded this morning. This is the code that will become Neo/J 1.1 Beta (assuming that it is stable enough).

BTW, I am hoping to get the Beta release out by the 22nd if I can.

Sorry to hear you'll be MIA from the Neo community for a while, Jonathan--old-timers like you will be missed, especially around the wiki Smile But enjoy your break from the rat-race!

Ooh, I'd better get cracking on the icons. Dan (foxcorner) and I have been making some final tweaks on the aqua-globe and hopefully I can get them done by Monday between travel and company arriving Smile

Well, yeah, except that the time difference means that Patrick has to upload pretty early if he is to find you still in the office. Either that, or you download it after your goodbye-reception finishes...

Not wanting to rain on anyone's day (even if the weather around here was appalling today).

Best wishes,
Oscar

Yeah, but you won't get the new artwork (splash, etc) until the beta. Smile

OK, after a loooonger-than-normal day on the road, I'm home now, and hopefully between the outdoor decorating (supposed to be a nice day tomorrow [Sat]), I will have time to do most of the icons so that our "going-away present" to JKT will be an on-time Neo/J beta with a new, pretty look Smile

Hey, what can I say... I only wanted the beta for the new icon/splash screen anyway! j/k Razz

Also, thanks to everyone who has PM'ed me to offer to send me a CD of the beta etc when the time comes. If I need to go that route, yoxi wins the honour on the basis that they live in the same country as me.

Cheers.
