I have an original (rev B) iBook with the maximum 320MB memory. I've been running NeoOffice/J on that with no problems.
I noticed today, with the new version, that the minimum memory is 512MB. Is this new version usable with less? What kind of issues will I run into with only 320MB?
Thanks for any help you can give.

512 MB isn't necessary. However, many people have said that Neo/J can really slow down a machine with only 256 MB. It won't hurt anything to try it out.

In the text I submitted to the app-tracking sites, I said "512 MB recommended." Hopefully people will understand that they can run Neo/J with less but get better performance with 512 MB or more without having to add this entire sentence

How about this for the download page?
To install and run NeoOffice/J 1.1 Beta, you must have the following:
# Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
# 400 MB of free disk space
For optimum performance we recommend at least 512 MB of memory.

I guess, since it's in the "is 512MB [RAM] necessary?" thread, I simply thought of RAM.
Oh well.
Maybe I should've said "My $0.02", since it's not worth much (these days...  ).

| I've been Googling the Beta, and it seems a lot of people are confused about the 512 mb mininum requirements. I'm not sure if the message is getting through, personally I ran Neo on my PowerBook G4 550 with 384 MB of ram and it ran beautifully! |

As I wrote in past, here (powerbook 12'') neooffice and a large spreadsheet, took about 200mb of ram. So 512 mb is a good clue for intensive works.

I run Neo/J on my iBook (128 MB) all the time. Startup is really slow, opening files is slow, scrolling is slow, but the display is able to keep up with my typing speed (about 65wpm) just fine.
That having been said ... my iMac (512 MB) runs it beautifully, as well. All of the above are still sluggish, but not nearly as slow as on the iBook. Of course, that sluggish feeling may have something to do with the fact that I frequently have X (at least two of GIMP, Scribus, Pan, GNUCash), Safari, Mail, Preview, Acrobat 6.0, Terminal and one or two other apps all running at the same time. My swap-file averages about 3GB...

FYI. I changed the minimum memory requirement back to 256 MB on the download page. 512 MB is clearly not the "minimum" and putting 512 just caused confusion.
