11 August 2007 - Since we released NeoOffice 2.2.1 Early Access through the NeoOffice Early Access Program three weeks ago, we have not only been fixing bugs reported by our Early Access members, we have also implemented a significant feature: high resolution printing.
Due to some restrictions in NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code, printing resolution has always been limited to 300 DPI in NeoOffice. While many older printers only support 300 DPI, this restriction caused many newer printers to print high resolution images at a reduced resolution.
Fortunately, after much effort, we have been able to remove these restrictions and we are pleased to announce that NeoOffice 2.2.1 Early Access can now print high resolution images at the resolution supported by your printer.
You can get the new high resolution printing support by installing the latest NeoOffice 2.2.1 Early Access patch. The latest patch can be downloaded by Early Access Program members and subscribers from the NeoOffice Early Access patch download page.
Additional details about the NeoOffice Early Access
Program are available here.
We would like to thank all of the people who have donated to NeoOffice. Without their financial support, adding this new feature would not have been possible.
If you have any support questions, please visit the NeoWiki or post a question in the NeoOffice support forum. Also, please post any bugs that you find in Bugzilla so that we can continue to improve NeoOffice. |

25 June 2007 - Two weeks ago, Apple released Mac OS X Leopard Beta and we have not wasted any time making the necessary changes to NeoOffice so that it works on this exciting new Mac OS X release.
Not only does NeoOffice work on Leopard Beta, but we have also added support for Leopard's new Quick Look feature. With the latest NeoOffice patch, Leopard Beta users can quickly preview in the Finder the first page of any files saved with NeoOffice 2.1 Patch 6 or later.
If you already have NeoOffice 2.1, you can get the new Leopard features by installing the latest NeoOffice 2.1 patch. The latest patch can be downloaded from the NeoOffice patch download page.
We would like to thank all of the people who have donated to NeoOffice. Without their financial support, adding new Leopard features would not have been possible.
If you have any support questions, please visit the NeoWiki or post a question in the NeoOffice support forum. Also, please post any bugs that you find in Bugzilla so that we can continue to improve NeoOffice. |

NeoOffice gets another round of significant performance improvements

After releasing the last performance patch a few weeks ago, we have not rested and we have eliminated another set of performance bottlenecks in NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code and fixed those bottlenecks by replacing the OpenOffice.org code with code that is optimized specifically for Mac OS X.
As a result of our fixes, text layout and drawing speed is now 2 to 2.5 times faster than it was in the last patch. Put anther way, laying out a document's text is now done in 40% to 50% of the time. While users who use only short documents may not notice much change, users with large text-based documents will notice much smoother scrolling, faster relayout of the document when changes are made, less CPU usage, and shorter print times.
We would like to thank all of the people who have donated to NeoOffice. Without their financial support, these performance improvements would not have been possible.
If you already have NeoOffice 2.1, you can get these performance improvements by installing the latest NeoOffice 2.1 patch. The latest patch can be downloaded from the NeoOffice patch download page.
If you have any support questions, please visit the NeoWiki or post a question in the NeoOffice support forum. Also, please post any bugs that you find in Bugzilla so that we can
continue to improve NeoOffice. |

After countless hours of performance analysis work, we recently had a breakthrough that enabled us to identify specific performance bottlenecks in NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code and fix those bottlenecks by replacing the OpenOffice.org code with code that is optimized specifically for Mac OS X.
As a result of our fixes, image scaling and drawing speed has been increased and memory usage has been reduced. While users may not notice much change in performance when using text-based documents, users should see image-intensive activities such as running a slide show with transitions or scrolling through large documents perform several times faster than before.
