Although no users have reported any bugs since we released NeoOffice Mobile earlier this week, Tim has been busily fixing some minor user interface bugs. Since these bug fixes required only minor code changes, we have updated the NeoOffice Mobile servers and users should see the fixes for the following bugs:
3547 - Incorrect error when adding user when writeable database down
3551 - Rename fails silently when writable database is down
3552 - Menu does not work after Search
3554 - Tooltip displays filename, not expiration date

Today we released NeoOffice 3.0.1 Early Access Patch 2. While that patch includes mostly bug fixes for NeoOffice, it also includes two small changes to NeoOffice's NeoOffice Mobile floating window:
1. Dowloaded files are now saved in the same folder as Safari - If you are running Mac OS X 10.5.x or higher, downloaded files will be saved in your user's Downloads folder. If you are running Mac OS X 10.4.x, downloaded files will be saved on your Desktop.
2. Downloaded files with spaces in their name are saved correctly - Previously, all spaces were replaced with a "+" character in the name of the downloaded file. This bug has been fixed in NeoOffice 3.0.1 Early Access Patch 2.
NeoOffice 3.0.1 Early Access Patch 2 can be downloaded from the following URL:
If you are a NeoOffice Mobile user and you have any questions or have found a bug, please post any questions or bugs that you have in the NeoOffice Mobile Support forum:
Earlier this week, we found a bug that can cause downloading of a file's previous version to fail. This bug would occur when you overwrote an existing document with a document of a different type. For example, if you have a Writer document in NeoOffice Mobile and you overwrite that file with a Calc document, you would not be able to download the Writer document even though it is listed as the previous version. You could view the previous version, but you could not download it.
We have fixed this bug and today we have updated the NeoOffice Mobile servers. Users should not notice in change in the behavior of NeoOffice Mobile as the only users affected by this bug were Fran and I but we felt it was good to fix this now before other users encountered this bug.

Posted: Sun Oct 25, 2009 8:56 pm Post subject: New feature: Microsoft Office format now can be downloaded
Prior to the release of NeoOffice 3.0.1 last week, NeoOffice Mobile could only upload your document in ODF (.odt, .ods, .odp, etc.), PDF, and HTML formats. Since NeoOffice can also save in Microsoft Office's .doc, .xls, and .ppt file formats reasonably well in most cases and uploading those file formats required only minor changes to the NeoOffice Mobile uploading code and starting in NeoOffice 3.0.1, NeoOffice Mobile began uploading Microsoft Office's .doc, .xls, and .ppt file formats as well.
Today we updated the NeoOffice Mobile servers to allow you to download either your documents in either ODF or Microsoft Office format. This feature is available when accessing NeoOffice Mobile via a web browser from the following URL:
With this new feature, you or any other NeoOffice Mobile users that you share your documents with can download your documents in Microsoft Office format if you are accessing NeoOffice Mobile from a machine that only has Microsoft Office installed and does not have NeoOffice or OpenOffice.org installed.
Please note that if you open a NeoOffie Mobile file while running NeoOffice, you will see no change and NeoOffice Mobile will continue to download your file in ODF format since that is the file format that NeoOffice understands the best.
If you are a NeoOffice Mobile user and you have any questions or have found a bug, please post any questions or bugs that you have in the NeoOffice Mobile Support forum:

Posted: Fri Dec 11, 2009 5:43 pm Post subject: NeoOffice Mobile bug fix update
Earlier this week we found a bug in NeoOffice Mobile that made previous versions of shared files unavailable. While the creator of the shared files could see previous versions of their shared files, any users that the creator gave shared access to could only view the current version of shared file.
We have fixed this bug and we have updated the NeoOffice Mobile servers. Users should not notice in change in the behavior of NeoOffice Mobile as very few users have granted shared access to any of their files but we felt it was good to fix this now before other users encountered this bug.

Posted: Thu Apr 08, 2010 1:02 pm Post subject: New NeoOffice Mobile features added
We are continually working to improve the usefulness of NeoOffice Mobile for our users. As part of the on-going work, we included the following new NeoOffice Mobile features in NeoOffice 3.1.1 Beta which we released earlier this week to all NeoOffice Early Access Program members.
Users can view 10 versions of each NeoOffice Mobile file
Tim has increased the number of previous versions that NeoOffice donors can store for each file. Before this change, NeoOffice donors could only access the 2 most recent versions of each file but now NeoOffice donors can access the 10 most recent versions of each file that they have saved in NeoOffice Mobile.
As shown in the following screen snapshots, when a NeoOffice donor clicks on a file and selects the "Previous versions" menu, the 10 most recent versions of the file are listed. Any one of the listed versions can then be viewed or downloaded:
The NeoOffice Mobile window is collapsible
Since the NeoOffice Mobile window is a floating window, it can easily use up a lot of screen space. To help users move the NeoOffice Mobile window floating out of the way more easily, starting in NeoOffice 3.1.1 Beta pressing the green "zoom" button in the NeoOffice Mobile window's titlebar will collapse the window as shown in the following screen snapshot:
The NeoOffice Mobile menu uses less space in NeoOffice's menubar
Some NeoOffice users found that on Mac machines with small screens, the NeoOffice Mobile menu in NeoOffice's menubar crowded out other menus. To fix this problem, starting in NeoOffice 3.1.1 Beta, the "NeoOffice Mobile" menu has been renamed to only "Mobile" as shown in the following screen snapshot:
Posted: Tue Jun 15, 2010 9:11 pm Post subject: NeoOffice Mobile "expires date" update
Over the last week, we have made some small changes to the NeoOffice Mobile code to make the estimated "expires date" for files recalculate immediately after you add or change the PayPal e-mail that your account is linked to.
We have updated the NeoOffice Mobile servers. Users should not notice in change in the functionality of NeoOffice Mobile but if you notice any breakage in NeoOffice Mobile, please let us know by post any questions that you have or bugs that you find in the NeoOffice Mobile Support forum.
Posted: Wed Jun 16, 2010 6:51 pm Post subject: NeoOffice Mobile can now download files from Google Docs
We are continually working to improve the usefulness of NeoOffice Mobile for our users and as part of the on-going work, Tim has added the following new feature in NeoOffice Mobile:
NeoOffice Mobile can now download files from Google Docs
When a NeoOffice donor opens NeoOffice Mobile within NeoOffice, they will now see a [Google Docs] folder. If they select this folder and log into their Google Docs account, all of the files in their Google Docs account will be listed.
As shown in the following screen snapshot, when a NeoOffice donor clicks on one of their Google Docs files and selects the "Open" menu from the popup menu, NeoOffice Mobile will download that file from Google Docs and open the file in NeoOffice:
Posted: Mon Aug 09, 2010 11:29 am Post subject: NeoOffice Mobile iOS application now available
We are continually working to improve the usefulness of NeoOffice Mobile for our users and as part of the on-going work, Ed and Tim have created something new for NeoOffice Mobile users:
NeoOffice Mobile application for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch now available
While NeoOffice Mobile works well in Safari, navigating to the NeoOffice Mobile site can be inconvenient so we have created an application for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. With the NeoOffice Mobile application, users can automatically connect to NeoOffice Mobile and view their files quickly and easily from any Apple device running iOS 4 or higher.
You can find the NeoOffice Mobile application by searching for "NeoOffice Mobile" in the Apple App Store. Please note that the NeoOffice Mobile application requires that you have a NeoOffice Mobile account and the application only supports viewing, not editing, of your published documents.
Posted: Wed Oct 20, 2010 11:09 am Post subject: NeoOffice Mobile now costs less and can save to Google Docs
We are continually working to improve the usefulness of NeoOffice Mobile for our users and as part of the on-going work, Tim has implemented the following changes to the NeoOffice Mobile code:
NeoOffice Mobile now costs 67% less than before
Recently, we looked at the costs of running NeoOffice Mobile and we found that that those costs were significantly less than we expected. Since donations from NeoOffice Mobile users has helped us fund the on-going costs of running the NeoOffice website and providing free NeoOffice downloads, we would like to thank our donors by passing on our cost savings to NeoOffice Mobile users.
Effective immediately, NeoOffice donors that have donated US$10 or more within the last 90 days or US$25 or more within the last year will have access to the complete set of NeoOffice Mobile features. Not only is this a 67% reduction from the previous US$10 per month cost, but it eliminates much of the complexity in the previous cost calculation that confused many users.
For more information on the features that NeoOffice donors have access to, please visit the NeoOffice Mobile pricing page.
NeoOffice Mobile can now save to Google Docs
Until now, NeoOffice Mobile users could open but not save Google Docs files. After much work, Tim has added the ability to save documents directly from NeoOffice to your Google Docs account using NeoOffice Mobile.
When you open NeoOffice Mobile within NeoOffice, you will see a [Google Docs] folder as show in the following screen snapshot. After selecting this folder and logging into your Google Docs account, all of the files in your Google Docs account will be listed. Just like all other NeoOffice Mobile files, you can open any of your Google Docs files in NeoOffice and you can save NeoOffice documents to your Google Docs account.
We hope you find the cost reduction and the save to Google Docs feature useful.
Posted: Mon Nov 08, 2010 10:55 pm Post subject: NeoOffice Mobile bug fixes
We are continually working to improve the usefulness of NeoOffice Mobile for our users and as part of the on-going work, we have fixed the following bugs recently reported by our NeoOffice Mobile users:
- NeoOffice Mobile ignores username in donation payments
One of our donors found that when they put their NeoOffice Mobile username in our donation page and their PayPal and NeoOffice Mobile e-mail addresses were different, NeoOffice Mobile ignored the username that they entered.
We have fixed this bug. But if you find that your donation payment still does not get credited to your NeoOffice Mobile account, please e-mail us at donationrefunds at neooffice dot org and tell us your donation payment amounts and your NeoOffice Mobile username and we will investigate.
- Free plan users cannot download their documents
Non-donors are supposed to be able to access uploaded documents for 7 days after uploading a document. However, our change in pricing last month last month accidentally broke download functionality for some free users.
This has been fixed so free users should now be able to download any documents uploaded within the last 7 days without having to donate.
- Unshared subfolders within a shared folder are visible to other users
While Fran and I were using NeoOffice Mobile, we found that a user could see another user's unshared folders and a list of the files in those folders if they had been granted access to the subfolder's parent folder. None of the files in those unshared folders could be opened, but we still felt that listing such unshared subfolders and their files is not secure.
We have fixed this bug so that if a user explicitly removes shareable read and write access from a folder but its parent folder remains shareable, no other users will see the unshared folder.
If you find that our bug fixes do not work for you, you find any new bugs, or have any NeoOffice Mobile questions, please ask your question in the NeoOffice Mobile Support forum.
Posted: Tue Dec 21, 2010 12:50 pm Post subject: NeoOffice Mobile Android application now available
We are continually working to improve the usefulness of NeoOffice Mobile for our users and as part of the on-going work, Tim and I have created something new for NeoOffice Mobile users:
NeoOffice Mobile application for Android devices now available
Since Android devices are becoming popular, we have created a NeoOffice Mobile application for Android devices. With the NeoOffice Mobile application, users can automatically connect to NeoOffice Mobile and view their files quickly and easily from any Android device running Android 2.2 or higher.
You can find the NeoOffice Mobile application by searching for "NeoOffice Mobile" in the Market application on your Android device. Please note that the NeoOffice Mobile application requires that you have a NeoOffice Mobile account and the application only supports viewing, not editing, of your published documents.
