This might be evident for most experienced users but hepful for novice :
Neo/J as OOo/X11 quit when closing the last document. There are external tools (OOpalette, Cool) to prevent OOo to quit, but none for Neo/J.
The simplest trick is to have an untitled document window minimized in the Dock. However there are occasion were NeoJ/OO default to use an untitled and unmodified document window to open an existing one. Then when you close it, you are lost.
The modified trick is to keep an Help window open or minimized. When the last document close, NeoJ/OO keep running. You have no more menu item to open any document, but double-clicking one in the finder, or dragging to the Neo/J icon open it quickly, saving you the ± 1.5 min of launch time.

Nice idea. I first tried the 'minimizing Untitled' trick, but as you say, sometimes OO will reuse the window. Nowadays I just keep a small file open. I'm already working around the clipboard issue by saving/copying to '/tmp/a', so I usually just leave that file open and minimized.
