Under File, select "Save As..."
Give the file a new name (letters and numbers only, no other characters)
Save it to your desktop
Does this work?
What is the name of the document and the full path you have been trying to save it to? (i.e. does the name or the path include anything other than letters or numbers?)
Could you describe in more detail the steps taken when you say "documents I put on my mac from word".
Possible methods could include download as an attachment from an email you received, or maybe you transferred them using a USB drive or similar external device?
What, in your case, does "put on my mac" represent?
Why is that important? I've seen examples of attachments from emails being downloaded (by double-clicking the attachment icon in the email message) into the email software's 'tmp' (or temp) folder from where they are automatically opened in the associated word-processor software. At that stage, the user quits their email software which, in turn, deletes all items in its internal temp folder, including the document currently showing on-screen in the word-processor. Since the original file location has been cleared, an error of the type you report may result. The solution is always to File>Save as... any file you download into a location in your personal Documents folder (say) prior to working on it.
If you can describe how you "put" the Word document onto your Mac, it may help us eliminate some possible reasons for the behaviour you describe.
Don't despair! _________________ Ray Saunders
