I posted a modified version of the applet here (this is a link). I added a test to avoid following symbolic links in /Volume.

I'll wait for successful testing from both Jaguar and Panther users before updating the "official" release. So, please, if you have Jaguar running, give it a try.

On Jaguar, I am seeing all paths start with two "/" characters. For example, "//Applications/NeoOfficeJ.app/..."

I'm seeing that in 10.3.7, too, but the installation appears to have proceeded successfully. (I choose Italian this time and got both the "success dialogue" and a nice "it" folder in Neo/J.app...help.

This was expected and harmless, but I just modified the code, using an empty argument, to avoid this.
Updated test release is at the same url.
Patrick, beside the "//" did the script successfuly install files?
Smokey, you can "install" the same help archive again and again for testing purpose.

I know I was just in too much of a hurry last night to "fix" Neo/J so that I would be able to tell if the install worked (and I had to redownload a help archive anyway)...I wasn't sure what your timeframe was and I wasn't sure I'd be online tonight after my long drive, so quickness prevailed over thoroughness

New version works fine with French 10.3.7
Just be sure Patrick modifies step 3 of the instructions to indicate the installer must be run *by* a user who is an administrator, rather than simply any user being able to supply the administrator password.

OK, I made the improved (0.6) version the default download.
I'm not absolutely certain it works on Jaguar but I presume it does.

Max,
FYI. I just tested the latest version on Jaguar and it works fine.

Quote: | In that event, the .tgz archive is put directly into the Trash without the user knowing it (it's even possible that the Trash icon in the Dock remains empty, at least in the early versions of Panther it was so), and only the .tar archive and raw folder are put visibly inside the download folder (Desktop in my case). |
This was the answer to my problem, thanks. Digging the .tgz file out of the Trash and dropping it on the installer worked fine.
May I suggest that the installation instructions be modified to warn users to use the original .tgz file, not the .tar one or the "helpcontent_33_unix Folder"?
Or to provide a package in a .dmg, replacing both the help files for a given language and the Applescript installer?
Thanks,
Hervé |
