|
I'm posting this on behalf of someone on a Mac e-mail discussion group I'm on. They inquired about the OOo X11 version but I suggested they give NeoOffice I try instead. They seem to be having some very strange problems though...
----
When I try to open the file NeoOffice/J_Candidate Excel tries to open it and can't. I have poked about to look for Disk Copy but it doesn't seem to be part of the OS anymore. NeoOfficeJ_1-1_Help_Installer.a gets taken over by Word and also won't open.
I have downloaded twice - which takes quite some time. Has Microsoft done some mischieveous thing to stop it opening I wonder?
----
Any ideas ?

It appears that you user's browser is truncating the names of the downloaded files. For example "NeoOfficeJ_1-1_Help_Installer.a" should be named "NeoOfficeJ_1-1_Help_Installer.app.sit" and the installer should be named "NeoOfficeJ-1.1_Release_Candidate.dmg".
Have the user rename the files to the correct names and that should fix the problem.

BTW, as far as we have been able to determine, the only browser that truncates the names in that manner is Internet Explorer, so if you're in a charitable mood, you might suggest the user would have a better experience on the wider web using any other Mac web browser (well, maybe not Netscape 4.x/6.x/7.x, but any *other* other Mac web browser)

NS 7 ain't so bad, just that once you get that "bad rap" ala NS 6, it's hard to shake.

I see now.
Sorry to hear that. I have a general qualm with the Pentagon closing facilities in the US in order to free resources to wage war outside the US, but I hope you won't get the double short end of the stick. _________________ "What do you think of Western Civilization?"
