Well, we got slashdotted. Seems the wiki survived all of the morning announcments (including a Macslashing) but add on a slashdot...

oh and congrats on the final release Patrick.

At least trinity and planamesa.com are still up, but next time around we do need to try and mirror some of the wiki content. I've got everything in web archives, but I don't think my .Mac would last a second, and it'd be a lot of work getting the archives into something roughly useable. Sad

Bon courage, neowiki!

So far the responses have been *very* reasonable, especially for /. Smile

OK, now it's starting to sound more like /.

The wiki was almost up earlier...I could load the release notes page and get the edit screen, but in the time it took to compose the Patch-0 note and hit submit, our brave wiki went back into the fight Smile

so we did good.

the slashdotting pretty much clogged up the entire server (all 250 websites)

the wiki will be down for a few days until the site requests die down to a some-what normal level. all things considered, the host did a pretty good job at keeping it alive.

(zesthost.com, btw, i do reccomend them, just not for slashdottable sites)

more later, i apologize. for the next time, i'll work with the major players to see what the best solution is.

Any chance for the default message to be changed to a redirect to neooffice.org or something? Or even "slashdotted!" or soemthing?

Don't feel bad. Very few sites can handle being slashdotted like yours was today. And don't worry too much about adding bandwidth unless this problem continues. For the next release, we can stick the press release page on one of my sites.

When I went to London and Paris after my high school graduation, the schedule put us in Paris for Fourth of July and London for Bastille Day Sad

I guess it was good for the British so that we wouldn't annoy them with our celebration, but we all really wanted to see Bastille Day celebrations.... Sad

=) yeah, got a note from the host that basically said "it is up, still getting a bit of traffic, so no more advertising on highload sites..."

translation, don't get slashdotted again. lol.
