This is a security measure: in root mode you could (inadvertently) use Neo/J to damage system files. Given that there is a 'wheel' admin system in Mac OS X, there are alternatives to running as root. In any case, a root can just create a user to work from as a workaround.

If you wish to compile Neo/J yourself you could turn this off, but don't say we didn't warn you Smile.
