This was caused by one of the two small changes that I made to fix bug 1147. I have reverted the change that causes this bug (i.e. ignoring the pressed keys while dragging) and moving docked windows now works. Also, reverting the change doesn't undo my fix for bug 1147 so I'll put out a patch tomorrow when I figure out what is causing bug 1153.

Ah ok,I was going to fill the bug Wink Thank for explanation.
Anyway I'm gonna fill another bug: if you open a saved document, select save-as, click at the end of the filename to change it, the cursor disappear (you have to select the old filename and use curcor keys to see it again, or begin to type). I meet this bug in save windows and often in basic window.

No, not Viagra, the latest Java 1.4.1 patch! It used to take forever to open 6 documents simultaneously (had to switch to another app to get something done while waiting). Now, it's relatively sprightly. Startup is faster, and so is everything that used to scintillate but doesn't any more. Thanks, Patrick!

FYI. I have posted "Patch-3-With-Java-1.4.x-Update-2" with fixes for the few bugs that showed up in that last patch. "Patch-3-With-Java-1.4.x-Update-2" can be downloaded from the following URL:

http://www.planamesa.com/neojava/patch.php

Thank you to everyone for testing the two big performance changes so quickly.

If I have understood from discussions in various threads, there may be merit in retaining a version which uses Java 1.3.x.

In order to distinguish between them - might be right off the beam but - would there be any merit in distinguishing between a Java 1.3.x/OOo 1.1.5 combination by refering to it as NeoOffice 1.1.5 while the Jave 1.4.x/OOo 1.1.5 combination would be referred to as NeoOffice 1.2?

So those with older hardware & OS version would install NeoOffice 1.1.5 while those with newer kit would install NeoOffice 1.2. Easier to explain the differences and point humble end users in the direction most appropriate to their kit while both get the benefit of the OOo 1.1.5 core?

Please direct flames at me, not at Patrick et al!

While this is a reasonable idea, Ed and I just don't have the time or money to maintain two parallel releases. Just working on NeoOffice 1.2 Alpha release has been a 60-hour-per-week task for the last 4 months. While the amount of effort to maintain NeoOffice 1.2 will go down a bit, Ed and I still need to get started on upgrading to the OOo 2.0 codebase and Mactel platform.

These time constraints are futher compounded by the fact that due to the recent OOo 2.0 Cocoa vaporware announcement (which still hasn't been started after 2 months Wink put a serious crimp in Neo/J's donation receipts. As a result, I won't be able to continue working full-time on Neo/J and I will have to go get some paid work.

I am sympathetic to those who do not want to (or cannot afford to) upgrade to Panther. However, our time and money are very limited so we cannot solve all users' needs. Instead, we must focus on what benefits the most users given our very finite resources.

Patrick, you have to at one time or another, cut off support for some folks. I work with a commercial product that goes back two release versions plus the current release. There are folks that will have their support cut off in February (new release date) that will be forced to spend major amounts of money to upgrade to a supported release. I think the same thing is in order for some of the folks here who are using Jaguar. They will have to spend major money to get new systems that support either Panther or Tiger. Sadly, when the move starts to build a NeoOffice version with OpenOffice 2.0 code as the base, Jaguar users will not be supported. Actually, the final code for OpenOffice 1.1.5 removed the code that provided Jaguar support. It is a matter of time and money (which has been proven to be the same) as to which version of what software is supported. Again, I feel sorry for the folks that are forced to use Jaguar but they are a diminishing number.

Sadly, this is true. I've given quite a bit of my time doing Tiger builds. I may stop due to the fact that my current employment is in question. I know that I've started it, but I don't like sitting in an office with nothing to do. And I don't feel like getting in major trouble by working on NeoOffice or OpenOffice when I'm getting paid to do something else.

In this case, I think the decision was made by other folks and you just have to follow with them. I could state the Apple numbers as far as those using what version of MacOSX, but that would be pointless at this time. I agree with your line of thinking that NeoOffice 1.2 and onward need to support Panther and Tiger. Sadly, this leaves the folks running Jaguar at NeoOffice 1.1. However, they will still be able to work with those using NeoOffice 1.2 as it is backward compatible with NeoOffice 1.1 and the .sx* file formats should continue to be interchangeable.

Note: I split the last few posts into a new topic ("Differing Development Methodologies" for lack of a better title), because they had nothing at all to do with the testing of Neo/J Performance Patches.

I put the new topic in Random Whatnot because it seemed more polite than "Ranting" and the topics covered do not fit cleanly into any other one category.

ericb->sardisson

Why did you only censor all my precedent answers to Patrick Luby ?

That is not correct from your part, so please if you move something, move the complete part, including the one containing P. Luby words about OpenOffice.org2.0.

I didn't censor anything. I moved the posts that consisted of the argument between you and Patrick (and Oscar's attempt at mediation). You quoted Patrick in your orginal post (the one that begins the new topic), and the post of Patrick's which you quoted belongs in this original thread (the parts you quoted were ancillary to the main subject of Patrick's post, which answered a question in this thread and which should stay here).

You are free, of course, to edit your own post which now begins the new thread and include a more extensive quotation of Patrick's post and a link back to it. (I do not edit the text of other people's posts.)

All of the pertinant posts were moved to a different thread, where they actually belong. Thus continues the discussion on the new version of NeoOffice in this one. And the text of Patrick's, Oscar's, my and your posts seem to be unchanged. That is not censorship but rather good housekeeping.

Hi Patrick,

I don't thinkyou should say that. Such a move may have occured for many reasons :
- NeoOffice is less in the press spotlight (it's not so new now),
- some people have less to give (or have already given)
- some people are more interested in the new OOo 2.0 X11
- and of course, some people may be interested in supporting the "cocoa" plan.

Moreover, according to Wikipedia, a vaporeware means a software announed but that finally wasn't released. Eric has never said that there would be anithing available soon...

I understand the fact that a revenue decrease is bad for all of us, but let's keep relations cool.

True. In any case, Florian Heckl has apparently had some succes in building OOo without X11. See this post on dev@porting. I hope we get some details in the near future.

He is describing building the aqua vcl variant which is still in OOo code. That was the base of Neo/C which is QuickDraw based (using NSQDView within an NSWindow) and was written by Patrick and his old team at Sun. None of the fixes for it are donated back to OOo from Neo/C, and neither will they be. I only moved back in minimal compilation support as time permitted.
