A bit late, but I just wanted to thank Fabrizio for the macro. I haven't had occasion to test it out just yet, as I had already finished my term paper last semester, but I expect to be in great need of it in about a month (mid-terms). Now I just need to figure out how to install and/or run an OpenOffice macro, but I think I can handle that one on my own.

Thanks again! I can hardly wait to write my next paper now!

Try Tools -> Macros -> Macro

This will bring up a dialog box. Type in a name for the macro in the Macro Name field and then click new.

You wil see a page with a bunch of code.

Type in the code provided by Fabrizo (sp?) between the Sub <Macro name> and the End Sub

Then click on the Save Icon on the toolbar and you are all set for the
macro.

To associate the macro with a particular key

Click on tools -> Configure -> Keyboard
Select the F8 key
Click on the plus (+) sign next to NeoOffice BASIC in the Category window, then the + sign next to standard, then module. Select the macro in the Function window. Then click on the Modify button. Lastly click on the OK button to close the Configure window. Click on the close button in the upper left hand side of the window frame to close the Macro editor.

You should now be able to use the F8 (or Fn+F8 ) key to clear off text between two bracket symbols ([ ])

Update Make sure you also edit the key for both NeoOffice and Writer. Writer uses the F8 key for Extended Selection functionality.
