Doing a QuickTime plugin for OOo/neo is on my list of things to do, but other things just have priority. QT has a Java binding on OS X which is what I was going to use as a potential starting point.
FYI. Now that I draw directly to the screen with Java 1.4.x, you can pass the native Cocoa or Cocoa window to a plugin and, in theory, let it draw directly to the window. The big implementation issues with plugins are the following:
1. Propagating events to the plugin.
2. Insuring that the plugin's clip region never intersects the VCL clip region for a particular window.

OK Pat, now you're just showin' off! j/k. This stuff is way over my head so I don't think volunteering to help with this effort would do any good. It sounds like you have done some of the bull work to make it possible based I what I'm reading here. Hopefully ed will have success inplementing this incorporating the avaiable Apple tools/code.
