PostPosted: Tue Sep 26, 2006 1:59 pm    Post subject: Where to put impress templates?

Hi,

I have been enjoying NO for a while now, but was slightly disappointed with the standard two templates in Impress. I have found some very nice ones on the Internet, but for some reason they don't show up in Impress even though I have copied them to the same location as the originals (somehwere in the NeoOffice package)

Where do I put them so I can use them as Impress templates?

Thanks!

Have you tried putting them in your ~/library/preferences/NeoOffice-2.x/ folder? Or just putting them somewhere and specifying the path to your templates in the preferences dialog in NeoOffice.

(although I might be thinking in too simplistic terms now..)

Best wishes,
Oscar

I am away from my Mac right now,
1. but I think that the path could be found by going into Preferences -> Paths (or something like that) and checking out what directory IMPRESS -> Templates are read from
2. or Maybe just IMPORT the templates, the SAVE them as TEMPLATES??

Philip (I thought I saw the paths in the Wiki... Confused )

I have tried /library/preferences/NeoOffice-2.x/ and that didn't work. The path-settings do not contain a field for the path of templates.

I haven't tried the importing thing yet, will do so now..

I think that you have to place your templates in the folder
~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-2.x/user/template

( ~/ is your home folder )

To open a template
File -> New -> Templates and Documents

Well, yeah, there is a templates subfolder in there somewhere that you need. I guess that will teach me to assume things as obvious..

Good luck and thanks to jgd for correcting me.

best wishes,
Oscar

I had already tried that and indeed it does work. However, I don't understand why the templates still refuse to show up in the 'new presentation' wizard.

Note that they're also organized by language, I believe. For example, the default two Impress tempaltes are located in the following folder within the application:

/Applications/NeoOffice.app/Contents/share/template/en-US/presnt/

I do not know how to add new ones myself, but perhaps that may be of help in some fashion or another.

Do they show up when you go to File>Templates>Organize? There is also the import option available under Command.

Can you try this:

File -> Templates -> Organize -> My Templates
Then click on Commands -> Import Template in the drop down menu. Choose your template, click Open and close the Template Management window.

To open your templates:

File -> New -> Presentation
Click on From Template
then in the drop down menu choose My Templates instead of Presentations and you should be able to see your templates.

Good luck Smile
