Since we starting using Java 1.4.x in Neooffice, there have been reports of random repainting of Neo windows. I have noticed it myself from time to time, but it was never reproducible.

Anyway, apparently this same bug has been reported in Java 1.4.x on other platforms and, from those bug reports, I have implemented a fix that prevents the JVM from randomly repainting the window.

If people could install the following patch and test my changes, I would really appreciate it as it is possible that I may not have eliminated all occurrences of this bug. Also note that if Java repaints the window (i.e. there is still work for me to do), it will be much more obvious in this patch as the window will be left in a mostly unpainted state:

I know that you're focusing on NeoOffice 2.0 right now, but will there eventually be a patch for 1.2 too ?

Nope. I normally only have the time to support a single release at a time. And with the upcoming Intel release, I'll now have two releases to support. Adding a third (Neo 1.2.2) is not feasible.

Bad news. I found that there is still some repainting happening and I traced it down to Cocoa. Sad

So, I have uploaded a new test patch that is back to the old code:

I too am no longer working on 1.2.2. It's really a "stable" release and won't be worked on any longer as shortly it'll be legacy.

It really comes down to priorities. With limited resources, we're trying to focus on the most demanded things (2.0 + Intel) and also trying to give folks in EAP as much support as possible.

FWIW, I learned this the hard way last year. I spent near a month and a half of time trying to add Intel support to the old 1.x codeline and wound up having to abandon the effort due to complexity. That time would have been much better spent doing something else to either help prep 2.0 or start NWF earlier.

What a pity. The refresh bug is the most annoying bug of neooffice 1.2.

I use Neooffice 2.0 Alpha 3 patch 2 on PPC.

I can still notice a repaint every time I open the "save / open" dialog.

As you can see, Patrick's last post acknowledges that the issue is still present :

I don't know whether anything has been fixed since then ...

I have found something about this bug: everytime I got the bug (neooffice 1.2, macosx 10.3.9) a line is added in console:

Application transferred too few scanlines

I do not know if this can be useful.

btw if pluby find a solution thanks to this message I want a patch for the 1.2 version too Wink
