I have downloaded and installed Alpha 3 Patch 0.
I have NeoOffice 1.2.2 installed on my external boot drive, and NeoOffice 2.0 Alpha 2 on my internal, non-boot drive. Alpha 2 was compiled from the source, with Java 1.5. It worked well before I installed the patch.
Now NeoOffice won't launch : the icon will appear in the Dock and bounce once, then disappear. The same thing happens when I boot off my internal drive too.
Should I file a bug in Bugzilla ??
Edit : In the meantime, I reinstalled Alpha 2, which works.

Applying the patch to your own Mac OS X 10.4 gcc 4.0.1 build won't work as all the official releases are compiled on Mac OS X 10.3 with gcc 3.3. So, applying my patch to your build means that you will mix binaries from two different platforms and compilers. This is not compatible.
If you build your own Neo, don't apply patches. Instead, you will need to rebuild your NeoOffice installation.

Good to know.
Edit : In fact, I think there should be a warning for people who wish to build NeoOffice with GCC 4. Some people could build NeoOffice and assume (like I did) that official releases are built with GGC 4 under Tiger. I know there are few people who do this so it's not much of an issue, but that's until someone decides to redistribute his homemade copy to others, without being aware that regular patches cannot be applied to his build ...

Yup. This is another reason that we don't allow redistribution of homebrew builds without removal of the NeoOffice trademark. All of the official binary patches and the like are guaranteed to support only our own official builds (and support for other things too). The source does tend to change from day to day, so it's really up to you for how often you want to do maintenance on your own build.
I tend to keep my day to day installation one of the ones downloaded from a full binary and latest patches, which is also the best place to do bug verification as well to rule out any differences between your build and the latest blessed patch. Officially released patches also may not correspond to the latest CVS source since further work may have been done in the source since the patch was assembled.

Oh. I thought that you were only supposed to remove the Neo trademark if you wanted to sell your redistribution. However, not allowing redistribution of homebrew builds seems a good idea.
I did check the Wiki, but I found about this article only after my installtion attempt of the patch.

FYI. The NeoOffice trademark usage policy is in the last section of the neojava/etc/ReadMe.rtf file in the NeoOffice CVS tree.

I'm not compiling from HEAD and Alpha_1/2/3 are "release" tags, not stable branches, so the code shouldn't change until the next tag, right ?
BTW, how long should it take to build NeoOffice w/out rebuilding OOo ?
If you delete all of the build.neo_* files in the neojava directory, cvs update -d (be sure to resolve any cvs updates with a "C" status), it takes about a full day to rebuild on my G4 450 MHz machine. Having a faster processor and more memory will be faster.
