It had to happen sooner or later. Somebody has devised a virus that can affect OpenOffice.org (and presumebly NeoOffice as well). It's only a "proof of concept virus," meaning that somebody made it just to prove that it can be done. The virus has not been released into circulation for general infection of the OOo using community. Here's the story:

I for one rely on NeoOffice for what I do for a living (my job description includes, among other labels "writer" and "editor"). This is bad news because it's only a matter of time before somebody makes the real thing. We need safeguards built into the program now.

I'm sure that as soon as OpenOffice developers get to see that "proof of concept" they will fix any vulnerabilities.

Concerning the current security situation: According to the NeoOffice documentation, the program will warn you if you open a document that contains macros.
