Please test startup improvements

Alex,

OK. I've changed the test1 program again so that it will also print out good fonts, not just bad ones. Please redownload the test1 file and reexecute the steps.

I got a little adventurous and found the behavior of this problem to be a little more complex:

Step 1
I moved all Utopia font files from the Font folder, so the font was not so much as disabled but non-existent as far as the system was concerned.

Result 1
Test1: Displays a huge list of fonts, I didn't count them, but it looks like all of the ones on my computer.
NeoOffice: All fonts available to me again.
Font Book: Strangely, now displays 174 font families. Previously, it had listed 95 (including Utopia).

Step 2
I moved Utopia back into the Fonts folder into ~/Library.

Result 2
Test1: Still displayed a huge list of fonts, including Utopia.
NeoOffice: All fonts listed and several that I tested were usable, including Utopia.
Font Book: Displays 175 font families.

Step 3
I restarted my computer.

Result 3
Test1: Displays 46 individual fonts (from 27 families), including Utopia. Most are OpenType fonts, but some TrueType system ones were on there as well.
NeoOffice: Shows a very limited number of fonts as well.
Font Book: 175 font families.

Step 4
I read your suggestion about APE, so I uninstall it (I wasn't really using it anyway) and I restarted my computer.

Result 4
Test1: Still displaying a small set of fonts.
NeoOffice: Still displaying a small set of fonts.
Font Book: 175 font families.

Step 5
Through Font Book, I disabled the 27 font families that Test1 and NeoOffice were displaying.

Result 5
Test1: Displays a huge list again, except the 27 disabled families.
NeoOffice: Huge number of fonts available again (except the disabled ones).
Font Book: Still 175 fonts families.

Step 6
Re-enabled all fonts.

Result 6
Test1: Huge font list, including previously disabled ones.
NeoOffice: Huge font list, including previously disabled ones.
Font Book: 175 fonts families.

Step 7
Restarted computer.

Result 7
Test1: Huge font list.
NeoOffice: Huge font list.
Font Book: 175 fonts families.

Everything looks good so far. NeoOffice starts up much faster than before, and I seem to have access to all my fonts through it. I no longer have APE, but I never really used it so that's no big deal.

Good to hear that your font issues are now resolved.

You should correct the page. The file is good but still remain patch 0
