Please help me (maybe is a silly question).
a) big text file. 42 chapters. lot of footnotes.
b) can't arrange the entire document to start again with footnotes numbering each CHAPTER.
c) ms office is pretty easy: insert section-separation between each chapter
d) how is with neooffice 2.0 alpha patch 3? (I already have 1042 footnotes)
thank you for kind help |

In NeoOffice is easiest!!!
Go to Tools -> Footnotes -> Counting and choose "per chapter" (since your nickname is italian I guess you're italian, so Stumenti -> Note a piè di pagina -> Conteggio e scegli "per capitolo").
You can also choose to restart numbering per page!
All this works if you have formatted your chapter titles with "Heading 1" ("Instestazione 1").

sorry
thank you for kind help, but it doesn't work.
I had already checked that way.
chaper titles formatted "intestazione 1"
tools/footnotes, choose "per capitolo".
still 1042 footnotes.
thank you for further help
(but it works "per pagina" "each page")

Sergio, number of footnote cannot change: if they are 1042 they remains 1042, but I think you want to say number of the last footnote is still 1042, doesn't is?
I don't know what happen there because here all seems to work!!!
I'm going to send you a private messagge with a very simple document showing how it would be.

Just an idea: Could it be that you have to define a manual page break for every heading? I did not try, yet, as my chapters are still in different files, but mostly wordprocessors can only restart counting on a new page.
