When I try to insert an image I cannot select an image of type PICT.
I can imagine that this format is not being supported in Open Office, it is something one does expect on a Mac however.

I notice the same behaviour, whatever extension (.pict, PICT, or pct) I use.
But as a workaround, you can open the image in Preview and copy/paste it in Neo Writer.

Are you sure you're using the "Insert:Picture:From File..." item and not the "Insert:File..." item? (The latter works only for NeoOffice documents.)
PICT files with the .pct extension (the extension required by the OOo import code) insert fine for me in Writer.

Yes and with .pct extension. It doesn't work in G5 10.4.7.
I have the same problem in OOoX11

Note that OOo & Neo can import only a limited range of PICT files. PICT files are optionally allowed to have different types of compression when they're saved along with alpha channels. AFAICT OOo can only read in uncompressed PICT files. Unfortunately, Preview creates only compressed PICT files and I don't believe there's any options for chanigng the compression settings.
Appliactions like Photoshop will allow control over compression settings and bit depth. Use 32 bit, no compression and you should be able to import your PICT files OK. GraphicConverter may also provide control over the PICT compression and depth settings.

Thanks for the information. I am not an expert in images handling (certainly not ).
I can't figure out why insert an image is better than copy/paste it ? Copy/paste is very easy and works fine (in Neo, not in OOo of course). |

Honestly, I don't think there's any difference between copy/paste or doing Insert. The biggest difference is if you don't want to actually embed the graphic in the file but you want to "link" it, that is, load the graphics file from the hard drive each time. Doing that "link" will save space in the document itslef. Of course, if the graphic is "linked" then if you remove the original graphics file you're out of luck.
