2. You just have to delete the TTF.bad folder because the broken VERTA-fonts just have been moved there and the Update installs them again, hey?

Yes, the update installed new Vera fonts. You can delete the TTF.bad folder but deleting it is not required.

I'm not sure the X11 update available from Apple Support is a full version of X11; it may require a prior installation of X11 from the install disc.

What happens when you try to launch X11 independently (X11.app is found in /Applications/Utilities) ?

The X11 version downloadable from apple site (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/x11formacosx.html) is for Panther only, not tiger (look at the right box in the web page I link where system preferences are listed).
To install X11 in Tiger you need Tiger DVD (I installed X11 to run The Gimp, that now I have almost replaced with Seashore, The Gimp without X11).

Apple published an X11 update for Tiger. I'm not sure whether it would install if no prior installation of X11 was found, and I don't know whether it would be a functional installation either.

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/x11update2006113.html

Anyway, if morningstar got his installation from http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/x11formacosx.html then it definitely won't work under Tiger.

The best way to install X11 for Tiger is from the install disc (howto). Then the update should be downloaded and installed from Apple's website (or through Software Update).

And, of course, NeoOffice will run without X11.

Seashore looks nice, but it probably lacks many of The GIMP's features (just look at the download size - 3.7 MB vs. 82.6 MB) ...

It seems that 75 MB of The Gimp are for help Laughing . But yes, you're right, seashore lacked some feature.

Off topic, I know, but couldn't resist Wink It 's a pity that Seashore's developer has such a quirky view about what might be most useful in a cut-down version of GIMP: I find that if I try to use it, the very features I need are those that he chose to leave out. It looks nice and works like a mac application, but I just can't find a regular use for it.

From where are you trying to install ? Again, the version available on the web is not compaitble with Tiger. The X11 Update disk image contains a package called X11Update2006.pkg, so this can't be the update.

You'll find instrcutions on how to install X11 from your Tiger install disc in the howto (see the link in my previous post).
