I'm connected.
P.S. I don't use iChat very often - but it should work like any other IM app.
I can see you BTW, but you're idle. |

Not a speed issue here, but a problem of open ports and firewall configuration/deactivation ... |

Firewalls...grr...
Yeah, iChat can have lots of trouble getting thorugh some firewalls, particularly for video and audio chats. Even if the software firewall is enabled but misconfigured it can't get through that.
Skype has this uncanny ability to be able to punch through firewalls. I recall reading an article about how they did that but don't remember where I read it. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before sysadmins find a way to block that as well
It's amazing how untrustworthy people really are that have resulted in all of this "security" that's being imposed on what originally was designed to be a nice, open, friendly system

Infact I'm trying to set up my firewall (built in in a router: mine is netgear dg834g) to let me use ichat for a video chat.
I absolutely need this for next wensday to partecipate to a conference I cannot attend but need my presence...

If it's something you require, I'd recommend testing it ahead of time. On your side you can test to make sure the firewwall isoff (software) with System Preferences > Sharing > Services > Firewall, but you may need to add additional things for video+audio and the other person may need to do so on the other end. If possible, try in the final configuration/locations where you need as well. Off the top of my head I don't know the ports iChat tries to use for video, but they need to be open on both ends

That's exactly what we've been trying to do (unsuccessfully) for about an hour this afternoon. I disabled both firewalls on my end, but for some reason some of my ports still appeared as "stealth" when probed by ShieldsUp! ... |
