I just installed the new beta, with patches, on a powerbook G4 today (Nov 21, 2006). Here's the problem:

Working with a text document, I copy a large section (~4000 words), click for a New Document, and then try to paste the material in. It doesn't work. I don't even get a cursor on the new document. The pasting actually occurs in the original document. Being a slow learner, I reproduced the problem 3 or 4 times.

When I click in the new document before pasting, pasting works fine for me.

I can't reproduce this, either. Are you sure you are giving the new document enough time to open/ Sometimes it can take a while (although tonight it was quite speedy for me).

Well, today it worked. But sometimes when I go back to the original document, it isn't "live." I can choose it off the Window list, and it will show up on the screen, but the cursor isn't live, and the check mark on the Windows list hasn't changed. I am moving to another document, checking "properties" to get a word count, and then trying to go back. This is intermittent. Being reasonably patient doesn't seem to be working.

Sounds like some of the Java window focus problems described in bug 1715. Java sometimes has its own mind of which window has focus. Waiting won't help. The only sure way to force focus if it is not where you want it is to click in the area that you want it to be in.
