Here is what I'm trying to do, please be kind because yes I'm really stupid at this spreadsheet, database, office kinda stuff.

I send emails out to my patients - many bounce back.

I buy a nifty program that sorts through all the emails and extracts the email address that I originally sent to.

Now, there are about 300+ email addresses on this external list.

My patient spreadsheet has about 800 addresses with separate columns for first name, last name, email address.

I need to somehow get the spreadsheet to sort on this external list and cough up the names of my patients whose email addresses don't work. I can then chase them down and get one that does work.

Help? and Big Thanks!!

I guess you could do something like this. (try it in a new sheet Wink )
It's not a neat method but I think it could work.

Let's say you copy your compleate list (800 records) in a new sheet. This list has 3 coloumn: surname, name, e-mail-address. It takes from A1 to C801.

Than you have your list of e-mail address that bounce back (just one coloumn). I suppose that these addresses are also in your primary list. So copy the list of not working addresses in cell C802 of the new sheet (the first free cell of the coloumn where you have e-mail addresses).

Now order your new sheet sorting for 3d coloumn (e-mail address coloumn).
You will have a list where a patient whose e-mail address bounce back has a line with all his data, followed by a line where just the 3rd coloumn has an entry...

Dr Bones,

The answer to your problem is the VLOOKUP function. This lets you search one spreadsheet for the contents of another and pull out the information you require.

I've put a little example together here.

That's excellent Andy! I didn't know that function, but it's very usefull!

The name of the function in italian is CERCA.VERT and syntax is available on NeoO help.
